Haha, I dont think that would be a decision that would be wise for the Jets. The whole team is young, I still dont understand why most of you are complaining about Nugent. The Jets are going to need a few years to actually get into playoff contention. It will take time for the Jets to develop so why gripe about Nugent. When the Jets are ready to start winning Nuge will be in the center of that attitude.

Nugent isn't Vinateri nor is he Janikowski so he must suck. Nugent is a kid kicker in NY so every mistake he makes is magnified to the nth degree.

To coin a phrase: You guys should back off Nugent and let this kid develop. He's still young and lately, he's making kicks more than he's missing them. He'll probably never hit many 50yarders because the NFL and College footballs are different but, give him time and let him develop. You might just find out we do have a mid range kicker after all.

    From Jets.com from the coach.

    On Graham kicking off?

I've talked about developing different skill sets based off the strength of his leg. That's a little bit of a weakness of his right now. Kickoffs could be something we could work on. We don't want to do that too much in season because it could affect his punting, transitioning in and out. And he's done well with the punting side of it. But those are definitely things we would definitely talk about in the off‑season and maybe get him functional throwing the ball.

Nugent set the tone for the Cleveland game when, after the Jets kicked their field goal for a 3-0 lead, Nugent kicks it OUT OF BOUNDS and Cleveland has the ball on the 40.....

not to mention they tied the game just 7 plays later. Those KOs OOBs are killers and I believe Nugent has about three of them now in his short career....

yep. you're right. that set the tone. not justin miller getting burnt 5 times by a tight end or droughns looking like jim brown on our D. damn nugent. the ten yards of field position he gave up really cost us the game (but i'm sure you were at the game and realized the wind was blow 20-25 dead into him so they called a left squib). but you're right...just cost us that game

Winslow had 7 catches on the day. Miller matched up with him on most occasions. I remember at least 4 catches against him...but I think 5 is a pretty safe bet even though I initially intended the number as a general point.

Have you seen Brandon Jacobs play at all? He doesnt line up at full back nor does he run block, so i dont see the full back comparison. Hes even bigger than any fullback ive ever seen, hell hes bigger than any tight end ive ever seen. Second of all, last season he was primarily used as a short yardage back. This season, hes used as a regular back. I dont know of any goal line backs who get like 40 yds a game. That must be alot of goal line attempts.

Easy Mrs. Nugent, most of us can only judge him by what we see. What we've seen so far is less then impressive. I'm glad he had a great college career, really I am. I wish I could have had a college career like that. At the same time, I'm sure I don't need to remind you how many OTHER people have had great college careers, then proceeded to suck ass in the NFL.

I'm not ready to write him off yet, but it would be nice to not have to hold my breath every time we attempt a field goal.

He was just trying to point out why we drafted him, thats all. And i wouldnt compare a kicker to lets say a QB or a MLB, they have more to assimilate. Nothing really changes for a kicker going from a college game to a pro game except for the pressure, but Nuge performed through a ridiculous amount of pressure in college.
