He had a whole season to develop his ability to kick in the winds of Giants Stadium or anywhere for that matter. No excuses for him anymore.

Yep. Cover your eyes the next time the Jets announce a second round pick. Hopefully this new regime gets it right - we have two of them in '07....

We can get Morten Andersen, I am sure he will be cut at the end of the season. This way if he misses FG or kicks short kickoffs, we have the excuse of saying he is old and stinks instead of Nugent who is young and stinks.

It's so upsetting to see Nuge struggling. Stick with him for this season, something may have to be done afterwards however.

Nuge has yet to nail a 50+ yarder, when he does, I'll believe that he is a keeper.

Hell, when and if he attempts like a 28 yard field goal, I hold my breath...

Graham should try for kick offs, and if it works out would take a whole lot of pressure off Nuge.

I'm with you 100%. The kid has a weak leg. I wouldn't be surprised if we go after a veteran next year. I don't like his kickoffs, and don't trust him past 40yds. Don't think for a moment, that Tangini don't know this. They do, and will correct it.

Well let me see if I can answer that question. For starters, he set 23 school records. Longest field goal, most field goals in a season, most points scored, highest percentage...etc etc. He was the first captain in 27 years to come from special teams. He hit a 55 yarder to beat Marshall at the buzzer. He made 25 straight field goals his sophomore season (2 off the all time NCAA record). He was a two time First Team All American. He won the Lou Groza award as a senior. He kicked in a state where football is life and in a city where football is life. He played in front of 106 thousand fans every week and had ice water in his veins. He kicked a monumental 47 yarder in the National Championship game his sophomore year.

I was at the game yesterday and it is pretty amazing to hear an opposing stadium chant "nuuuggeee" when he came up for his kicks. That is the respect they have for him in Ohio. His kickoffs were not great yesterday, but Dawson's (a potential pro bowler) had his kickoff into the wind come up just as short as Nugent's. Most NFL kickers do not have touchbacks. Those that do have relatively low kicks (Orlando Mare) that end up getting returned for TD's. How many times has a Nugent kicked been returned for a touchdown?

For those of you calling for him to be cut, just pray he doesn't end up in Pittsburgh, Indy, or Cincy. The fans would love him and everytime he makes a huge kick you would have to hear the stadium chant "nuuggeee" and think about the guy you cut.

Mike Nugent was a GREAT 2nd round pick

unless Terry Bradway wanted to draft Frank Gore who went in the third round to San Francisco or Brandon Jacobs went in the fourth round to the Giants to eventually replace Curtis Martin. I mean WHY would Bradway be thinking of a running back since Curtis Martin was going to run forever???

Nugent was a not bad pick in the second. He did good yesterday 2/3 and missed a 52 yd field goal that is not bad. he is going to struggle a little here and there but overall this is his second year by his 3 yr he will be make those 50+ with easy. He will become a solid kicker fo us and i dont understand why people want him out. he is not going to be perfect. I think he will practice his leg off this week and do good from here on out and Have you heard of leon washington? cause i have.

Plus he missed the 52 yd kick going into the wind and the wind was strong.

You can definately label Bradway as a reactionary but these counterfactual have to stop. I can look into any draft and pick the 7 best picks. The draft is an unpredictable beast. If drafting was predictable, all nfl teams would be run by robots.

    (Tangini is only 50% robot)

You think Frank "I fumble every 5 carries" Gore would succeed here? As far as I'm concerned, Jacobs is just a glorified Fullback whose only use is at the goal line. Neither could hold Martin's jock.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your perceptions....Frank Gore has run for over 100 yards three times this year,,,,is averaging over 5 yards a carry,,,,and fumbles ONCE every 20 carries on average....which I believe which drop drastically with experience....
