One great trade obviously for Adams. There were a couple of other solid ones (Herndon comes to mind as a good one), but some bad ones too. Prime Leonard Williams still on rookie deal for just a 3d round pick. Trading away Sam. Giving up way too much for Rodgers. Not getting enough for Cashman. Trading up for AVT with Darrisaw available. Overall JD didn't do a particularly great job even in trade department...
What I want to know from you guys is thoughts about how it might be a good idea to NOT draft a rookie QB with our best pick and get a different free agent guy for a year or two while hopefully adding another prime skill player. A Geno Smith type guy for a year or two. This is of course assuming that the Jets don't really love any of the QBs in the draft. If they really do think one is going to be a big time player then obviously that is a little different but at this point it doesn't seem like any of them are really that well thought of.
I hope it does not come down to that. If we think there are a couple of good 1st round, top 10 type talents this year, I want to get one. However, say we think there are two of these guys (suppose Mendoza and Simpson) and Browns/NO pick ahead of us. Unless we can trade up ahead of them, which may not be possible, I don't see how we can pick one of them. Then I would get a veteran you speak of for a year. I do not want overdraft a QB, and getting one after the 1st round in our situation a waste of a pick, as @Jets79 already showed before. But again I hope it does not come down to that. Hopefully we can get someone this draft who we consider top 1st round talent. If we go into 2027 with QB need still there, I think our pick will be a lot worse and we will be forced to trade major capital in a draft where experts say will be very rich. And I don't even know if QBs will be great and whether we can even get up high to get them even using this capital. So, for me I really want to address the QB need this year assuming there are guys we really like as top 1st round talent.
I want a guy drafted. I think the pieces are there to build a QB. Good offensive line, excellent run game Pieces at WR...Garrett, Taylor. Hopefully AD and Metchie and Smith (I think you keep these guys and find another WR in the draft/FA). TBH I don't see these batch of QB's really helping the evaluation process of this WR group. Analytically Smith and AD grade out well in separation but we really havent seen much of this in game action. A OC who seems to know what he's doing...Continue to attack the offensive side of the ball. Sign a vet center unless you really like Myers. Profit.
I think the Jets will draft a top QB prospect in the 2026 draft. It doesn't make sense to wait until 2027. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.
