I've lived here for 12 years and have yet to have an encounter with crime. Living in Jersey I was jumped 3 times in high school, my mother was mugged at gun point in Elizabeth, and my uncle's car stolen in Tarrytown. Point is, every city has got it's crimes. BTW, Miami is in Florida...
Let's keep it in perspective...the Cane was the one who got shot, not the one that did the shooting. Murders can happen anywhere...
Some of you guys are ridiculous. It is idiotic to automatically say that it doesnt surprise you that it happened at UM. The truth is it could have happened anywhere. If Pata had shot someone then you could be justified. But he was the victim, just like anyone on this board could have been. I am no Miami fan or a supporter of their arrogant attitude that seems to run that University. But crimes happen everywhere, this particular event does not appear to be anything more than another unfortunate event for UM this season. Sadly this one goes a lot deeper than the game.
Unbelievable to see people actually throw this on a program, and saying you are not surprised this happen. To read some of your statements is sad and how can you have no sympathy. It doesnt matter if its the U or not. Its a good kid who got killed for a stupid reason probably, and a family and person's future is not only ruined, but a family is left with nothing to go on. Pata was an outstanding person and player. It is a shock that something like this happens no matter where it is. This is a killing, a murder. Its not a fight, or a drug charge. It's a kid who was going to play in the nfl, graduate and be a role model for all inner city kids. I can not believe what i read here and on the news. It makes me sick, it makes me really really sick. How you can compare an fiu fight to a death is beyond me. And im sick at the fact people use this to pole vault at miami. A kid was killed and everyone lights their torches and fling them at the program. I wish i could write what i feel, but what i will write will kick me off this message board. But you people who write that this isnt a surprise... i cant even write what i feel but i dont know how you can see how wrong it is. I think i have lost respect for some of you guys. RIP Pata. You will be forever missed by friends and family. THe U, the fans and many others will always remember # 95.
I heard on the radio that there's a report that the asshole who attempted to rob Pata, killed him execution style.
