what about this team, from what you've seen this season, in conjunction with last season, or the season before that, leads you to belive they are somehow significantly better than they've played so far or those teams, which either sucked or choked, but either way didn't even make the playoffs? it's one thing to be optimistic, it is another to simply ignore the reality of the team. those of us who choose not to are still fans and follow hoping we are wrong, but sadly proven otherwise every time they take the field.

Mets are 5 games back in the first two weeks of the season. I think my 20 games back prediction was just a tad optimistic. This team is a complete disaster, the Layden/Thomas Knicks of baseball.

The Mets are trying to prove that they still know how to lose in a variety of ways.

First it's getting blown out and embarrassed in a game they were never in. Then it's losing on a extra innings walkoff home run.

    Well done.

    Now that's funny.

This team will never sink to the depths of the Thomas Knicks.

The Mets would have to figure out a way to get the highest payroll as well as somehow trade away most of their high draft picks.

20 games back sounds about right. I think it could be as low as 15.

not thinking this team is any good in no way equates to believing they are going to go 0-162. clearly, every team in the history of baseball has won a game, and won it handedly. that is hardly the criteria to believing they are good enough to do it consistently for a 162 game season and be a contender.

are you really attempting to argue that this one game is indicative of the team's ability over the entire course of a season? sorry, that's just f'ing stupid. if not, what exactly is your point?

Are you trying to argue that you can decide how good a team is or isn't in game 8?

It makes you look like a whiner, tbh. The only time you can really decide the success of a current season is at the end of it, and this season is far from over.

I'd rather be optimistic then sit around sulking like I'm entitled to a championship, because i'm a fan of the team.

How do you "decide" whether or not the team had a good season when the season is already over? There's nothing to decide you just look at the facts.

Also, what is sulky about looking at recent past and current performance to predict future performance?

being disappointed in no way equates to feeling entitled. please explain the logic of such an asinine statement, but for your sake I hope it is better than the logic you use asserting that you need the entire 162 game season to actually analyze how good a team is. are you seriously asserting that before the end of last season you weren't certain the team sucked and needed to wait until game 162 to come to that conclusion. that's utterly ridiculous and reveals no real world application or logical analytical ability.

how is being aggravated at the poor decisions being made by management resulting in a pathetic team on the field whining? what exactly am I whining about, that I wished the team was better? oh, how awful. perhaps I should be content like you about the poor performance of this team. yeah, that's certainly the more sensible alternative.

and yes, you can form an opinion of a team's ability through 8 games, especially when the team is not significantly different than the year before because you can use the past season's 162 games in conjunction to form the opinion. but perhaps that is simply too complicated for you and you can only analyze the team one game at a time.

this team and organization fucking sucks. if you disagree, please provide sound reasons that disputes it.

Pelfrey just pitched 7 shutout innings. The team might suck, but he could be maturing into a really solid pitcher (easy to forget now he was a blue chip prospect) this year. Obviously it's early, but that would be something of value this season: A true 2-3 starter...I don't even remember the last time we had one.

That's who I was thinking of! But then I figured there's had to have been someone since then. Maybe when Pedro and Glavine were here that was a legit 1-2 at some point? Trachsel also had his moments, and I always liked him.
