At this point can he do much worse than what we've witnessed the last 2 months? Other teams have given there top hitters a taste. I can tolerate young guys going through slumps but when overpaid veterans are out there going through the motions it bothers me. And are you willing to give up either Syndergaard or Matz for Starlin? Cause thats the likely cost. And that is way too much IMO.
Him too. Im beyond sick of Tejada. Ive never seen a team stick with so many unproven below average hitters before.
None of the top 5. In total agreement. But Niese for Castro yes. He has very good stats going into 2015. And still is hitting this season over .250 with about 35 rbis.
You don't want Baez. His value has dropped and he's not MLB ready. You need somebody who can play in the bigs now. For Castro (and he's just one example-there's plenty of other guys too) you might have to toss in another player like a Plawecki. Terry has been a loyal trooper but I did remember reading something recently about his frustration with the offense and how the answer isn't in AAA. Here are a couple of quotes that were interpreted by the media that way. http://metsblog.com/metsblog/terry-collins-is-frustrated-long-says-hitters-are-in-a-tough-spell/ I'd be happy with just a couple of veteran MLB bats who are cheap of the Reed Johnson variety. Guys who if they are in the lineup can contribute. When you look at the Mets lineup and the top hitter is under .270 and the bottom three of the order are under .200 it's no mystery why it's so hard to score runs.
The Cubs are in a pennant race themselves. If they don't like Baez to come up, who's gonna play SS for them if they trade Castro? On the other hand we have several SS prospects also, so I'm not sure the trade is for Baez either. Unless Baez is a can't miss 5 tool SS, the Cubs are happy with Castro, which I question, and each side adds players. Conforto, LF, looks to be a good prospect for us. He looks like he's a pure hitter type. Not fast, not great in the field...but possibly a really good hitter. But it's prolly just a little early to bring him up.
Cuddyer is injured but is in the .240's and going down. They signed him to help prevent team slumps because he is a legit MLB bat. His presence hasn't helped them because he's part of the problem not part of the solution. And the guy is 36. He's not a Bay but it looks like at this time he's taking on the characteristics of being a big time bust. Luckily he's only on a two year deal. But what a major disappointment.
I don't think Comforto is ready. He's in AA. I don't want to screw him up, bring him to the big leagues and he can't hit. Let him go into 2016 with confidence and then maybe he'll be ready for a call up if he hits in AAA. And at Vegas almost everybody does. I'm looking at things from a Mets perspective. The Cubs have 3 shortstops. If they traded Castro they'd start Addison Russell. Rumors have been that Epstein wants to trade Castro. But he's in a battle of wills with Sandy. And he's not going to win that one because Sandy will walk away and would prefer doing nothing. I read an article last week on Sandy and how he only will make a trade if he has the advantage. Well that means: no trades at all. The other GMs aren't stupid esp. Epstein.
And the TENTH highest paid Met this year is now officially---Bobby Bonilla. Just paid $1.2 million today from his differed comp deal from when he was a Met. Actually, he's been getting this payment since 2011. More than Harvey and deGrom combined. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/105897/its-bobby-bonillas-payday _
We'll have to wait and see. I bet the Cubs don't like Castro, his personality. I never liked him either. I wonder if Sandy really wants to take on a dumbass prima donna type. I'd rather get a good major league hitter somewhere else, some fuckn how...an outfielder
Look I'm not only pitching Castro. But he's the obvious choice. We have a hole in the offense and at shortstop. David Wright is out indefinitely. Murphy's best position is 3rd base. Flores who has offensive potential is not a good defensive shortstop but is adequate at 2nd. Our infield defense has lost us games. But actually Sandy even said part of making a move would be to give the team a "psychological boost." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...unting-sandy-alderson-trade-article-1.2269686 He also said last week he would be willing to overpay. Well you do sometimes if you have a huge hole and the market is tough. You don't just wait and let things spiral out of control.
Maybe if they take Niese and pay some of Castro's salary? It's certainly a decent deal on the short term. I'm just looking at it from all angles. The other thing is Castro doesn't seem to be having a good year. I'm thinking maybe the Dodgers would be desperate enough to give up something better maybe. I could see them doing that
Oh no....the poor Coupons....such a shame. Those two assholes shouldn't be involved in competitive sports in any way
The under performing Bobby Bonilla and his agent were geniuses. God forbids he were to die do the Wilpons have to continue the payouts to his family? I wonder.
Cuddyer's MRI results: he's ok. No DL. Out for a few games. As for the Wilpons. I blame much of this on Bud Selig. Even during the Madoff scandal he backed them up. When he should have pushed to get them out.
