Sandy is usually getting the top draft picks because his team finished last or next to last. So the Mets minor league ratings are high. btw he didn't draft Matt Harvey. That was in the draft before he was named GM. If St. Louis and the Giants and other teams can do it (develop players and win at the same time) why can't Sandy. I don't consider a measure of success his Baseball America organizational rankings. Maybe he does. It's the MLB record that counts. As for Amaris Ramirez he's not dreck. He hit .285, 15-66-.330 in 133 games last year. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/ramirar01.shtml Who do you want, Eric Campbell. But you're right about Sandy going nowhere. We're stuck with him and the Wilpons. I blame both Commissioners on that.
What's Ramirez doin' this year? He's not gonna make a difference. Just a name that's out there. Play with the young guys, move the guys you have around, and hopefully Wright comes back sooner than later, not that that's gonna make a difference either....and wait, and wait, and wait
Double play combo actually looks good with Herrera. Gotta stick with him and put Murph at 3rd when he returns..which the team says is soon but we've heard that before. How bout A-Ram with 5 RBIs against the Nats tonight. He's begging for Sandy to bring him here!
He's a good second half hitter. But the problem is he only plays third. This team needs immediate help right now if they are going to stay in the race. If not they'll fall out of it like a hot potato in July and August. Which is what's happened over the past few years with this team. Things just fall apart the second half. As for Aram: the more money the Mets pick up the lesser of a prospect they have to give up. Believe me the Brewers don't want to pay him that 8.8 this year. Maybe the Mets pay half and give up a grade B prospect like Ceciliani who isn't terrible and Gee. Carlos Gomez was a fast, good fielding light hitting OF on the Mets who we traded to Minny for Johan Santana. Now he's an All Star. Maybe the Brewers would like to take a chance on a guy like him.
I guess that's the hope of Sandy and Terry: That Herrera adjusts and sticks. The infield gets deeper right away then. pclfan: That's the Catch-22 with Ramirez. I have a hard time believing they're gonna pay off Ramirez's contract, or give up anything for him either. The thing is also, he's a dick Ramirez. He's got a bad rep. I just don't see it. Especially when you consider Murph, and then DW's returning. Btw, they're in 1st place.
OK, Walt. I never heard the guy is a dickhead. But anyways, it'd be a 4 month rental. I don't care if they pass on Ramirez I just want them to do something! You can't just keep waiting for guys to get off the DL esp Wright who might be out for the year. PS but on Ramirez again I could see him putting together a very productive second half of the season for the Mets with power. Teams like the Braves are constantly making deals to improve, not huge deals either but low to moderate money deals. Esp. with these injuries you don't sit on your ass and do nothing.
I hear you. Same thing with the Cub SS, forget his name. There was perceived need, and Sandy doesn't budge. He's not giving anything up, and the Coupons aren't payin' nuthin' I'm kinda resigned to the way things are. I wasn't on this board when the thing crashed and burned and they signed Sandy. But I was kickin' and screamin' early on. But it sounds like the pitching came first, and the field players are lagging behind. I'm hopeful. It's been a long time. I kinda feel like I did in the early 80's when things started to look better. Maybe with the state of the Pitching there's some light at the end of the tunnel now. The hope is long term success Maybe when he feels things are on the verge he'll make a big signing or trade. I don't think he feels they're quite there yet. In the meantime he's gotta lie for the Coupons to sell shit. When Sandy said a couple of years he had playoff expectations I laughed. That's what I don't like. The false hope that the Coupons were selling. Can't stand them Anyway that's my opinion.
Sandy's decision on Flores looks like it is panning out. The Coupons aren't going anywhere. If Bud Selig did nothing during the Madoff situation and supported them they aren't going to sell. Sandy just helped them facilitate changing the Mets over to a small market franchise. But Walt why are you so patient with the Mets yet so impatient with the Jets. Idzik wasn't even close to being as cheap as Sandy is in terms of running a franchise. And he only got two years. There is no way he wasn't going to spend considerable money this year because he by rule had to spend it.
Well, part of it is the pain of last season with The Jets, and they're the team I love. And all the years of frustration. MLB and the NFL are different. Plus if we had a fucking QB things would be different Also, after all the BS with the Woody and Rex Circus bullshit I kinda bought in to Idzik, and actually wanted them succeed very badly to stick up all the haters. I don't like Rex. I didn't like Woody making him keep Rex. But I wanted them succeed. It was horrible last year. I was crushed. I admit it. Like Kottite for me. Hindsight being 2020, the only thing I believe I've said about Idzik on here is the DB's. He fucked that up. And I wonder to this day if he even knew Shaq was ineligible to work out 'til after school ended for him But when I first came on here and vented, it mostly was about Rex, and I basically got attacked by a few people LOL. I was frustrated. My avatard was a paper bag head and I was bitching, lol. He's gone. They're both gone. I'm happy it's all over, and I think the starting point of getting Mac was a much better process.
I don't blame Idzik on the Dbs. He tried to sign the two best FA Cbs but they chose other teams. Plus there were injuries. He signed Patterson kind of akin to signing Aram: in other words a guy with experience who could fill in and maybe be successful but the guy was an asswipe. Sandy has a good rep but Idzik is known as a horse shit Gm. But just look at the Mets records and Sandy's signings. I'd take Idzik over Sandy. But Sandy still isn't the worst GM for a New York team. Phil Jackson is.
Brilliant play at the plate by d'Arnaud. Come backer to deGromm, knocks it down, recovers and makes a beautiful throw to the plate. If d'Arnaud blocks the plate he gets called for that new stupid rule so he sets up just to the right of the plate leaving a lane for the base runner to get to the plate, but d'Arnaud leans back over the plate, then at the instant of the tag he puts his left knee down just in front of the plate whilst applying the tag. _
Sandy just reacquired Kirk Nieuwenhuis who was released by the Angels. I guess some teams just won't tolerate .130 hitters. Anyways he got back his favorite ping pong ball in the Las Vegas Express. I guess this was the deal we were waiting for.
Holy shit what a play by Flores to save a run. Guys, I think he's our SS of the future. Seriously swinging a GREAT bat and he's flashing some leather in the field, big arm. _
Shelby Miller is a moron. He pitches a great game shuts the Mets out for 7 innings and gives up a clutch hit to D'Arnaud a good hitter. So he gets taken out by the manager and throws a tantrum. When he gets back into the dugout he throws a chair. I'd fine the asshole.
That's a tough damn loss today. Some may say if Flores fielded that ball cleanly we turn 2 and win the game but I don't think there's anyway Peterson doesn't beat the throw from 2nd. But the ump totally squeezed Torres on that ball to Freeman that shouldve ended the game.
I've been ripping Sandy but he did try to rebuild the bullpen and made two good trades just before the season. One of those guys was a part of blowing the game yesterday. And who knew Mejia was going to be suspended. But the offense needs a kickstart now. Not a month from now because by then the Mets could be under .500 and into their mid season swoon which has been the MO of Terry's teams. Even if the bullpen saves games you need some bats. Plus key guys like Duda are into slumps.
