What's the bullpen situation now? I heard one of the reporters in the postgame presser ask about Jack Leathersich. Collins said something about him having to throw strikes at the professional level. I mean, he's a lefty, but aren't there two lefties still available? He's probably not drastically needed. I think Familia will remain the Closer.
they're still winning though. if they can stay above .500 by the all star break they can contend for a spot. The only guy not coming back is Wheeler
Black should be back soon although the latest report on him has him going for an MRI because of a decrease in velocity. So more of a precaution Im guessing. Parnell will be back too. Lefty specialist becomes an issue again though. Im not sold on Gilmartin and Alex Torres is too inconsistent. Leathersich wouldve been a nice callup but they recalled Hansel Robles from the minors. Never heard of him but he's a righty.
Got'cha. During Parnell's injury and rehab, the media has generally sounded skeptical about him returning to his effective performance pre-injury. Is this just typical doom-&-gloom, or is there any legitimacy to those concerns?
Ive never been a huge Parnell fan to begin with so Im bias in not wanting him to be the closer when he returns. I think he's much more suited to be a setup man. In terms of his overall effectiveness I would guess he has to prove his velocity before returning to the team. If reporters are concerned his velocity is down I would go with that. When a power pitcher loses his power that cant be good. But at this point another "proven" arm in the pen couldnt hurt.
Parnell is very overrated as a closer, he only did well when the mets had nothing to play for. He was part of the bullpen problems for years, good stuff, but no movement and gets himself in trouble with the walk. Setup man, I guess, but like you said one more arm in the bullpen is fine.
And what about Montero? Earlier, someone posted that he's starting in spot up duty on a date in the near future. I'd think he's more likely to remain in the bullpen now for this season (even if he gets that one scheduled start)?
Such a high and such a low feeling. There are definitely some things to worry about but I'm gonna focus on the positive. 8 wins in a row.
Agreed. We really need Duda to stay hot over these next few weeks until Wright gets back in the lineup. Hopefully they don't decide to rush him back because D'Arneau is out now. The last thing we want is a nagging hamstring injury all year with Wright. The best thing about this season is that we have the arms to keep us in low scoring games. Colon, DeGrom, and Harvey: 8-1 with a 2.23 ERA with 59Ks and 5 walks. Whenever these guys are on the mound I feel like we should win every single time. Hopefully Niese and Gee can keep it rolling with Atlanta coming into Citi tomorrow.
Yep gotta stay positive. Injuries happen to every team. Like a previous poster said these guys wont be gone for the season so hopefully over the next month we can get back to full strength. I'll look at the catcher situation as a glass half full. Plawecki was already a strong trade chip. If he comes up and shows he belongs he could bring back an even stronger player for us come deadline time if d'Arnaud comes back healthy. Next man up!!
Yup, I think we just need to ride the starting pitching staff till these guys get back/ I can't see us having too many long losing streaks this year--it looks like we have at least 2 stoppers. _
Sucks cause d'Arnaud is quickly becoming my favorite Met. However good teams deal with injuries all year and its next man up. We will see if this Mets team is a good one, they sure seem to be so far.
I don't want to get overly excited, because we know how that goes....but being 8 games over .500 already is really insane.
Plawecki has a really quick bat. He looks more than ready to be up here. He might not produce on the soon-to-be allstar level that d'Arnaud was giving us but I dont see much of a drop off at catcher. Even Campbell has been more than solid in his filling in. The bullpen is my only concern now though. Its not hurting us now because of the below average offenses were going against but in games against better teams it could cost us.
Hell yeah! I like how he stroked it yesterday. Both of his hits were beautiful, especially the last one in the 8th. Kept his hands in and went with the pitch to the opposite field. Absolutely beautiful hitting. Let's hope Gee can keep it rolling tonight because Colon, Harvey, and DeGrom should be able to take 2 of the next 3! LETS GO BABY! IT TOOK LONG ENOUGH!!!!!!!
