He was an above average player, both offensively and defensively, for a nice stretch from 1971 through 1977 (.284/.340/.407 with a 112 OPS+), especially from 1974-1977, when he was also an excellent pinch-hitter. Cleon Jones is now the only guy left who signed his first professional contract with the Mets in 1962. RIP.
