What a shock - another game blown by the worst bullpen I've ever seen in 60 years of watching baseball.

    Yeah, abysmal.

On a positive(starter) note, David Peterson has been really good, hopefully, this will continue.

I don't think there's any hope. They'd have to literally sweep the Diamondbacks and it's far more likely they get swept by them.

They have to sweep the White Sox, anything less is embarrassing. If the bullpen didn't suck so bad, they would've won 6 out of 7 so far on this road trip.

The amazing thing is that if the bullpen was only bad (not historically bad) they would be solidly in the wild card right now, and that's with the injuries, terrible stretches for Nimmo and McNeil, terrible year for Alvarez, and mediocre year for Alonso.

Mets get the required sweep, and finish 7-3 on the road trip (of course, they would have finished 9-1 if not for two big bullpen/Diaz failures).

It's September and the Mets are definitely in the race, but it still feels like this team is a disappointment way too much of the time.

Manaea with another good outing and Diaz has seemed to bounce back(a little). Yeah, it's the White Sox, but, I'll take it.

Yep, Mets are now 1 game behind Atlanta. They are about to face the Red Sox, who are a decent team, while Atlanta plays the crappy Rockies. Hopefully the Mets can stay relevant this week.

It would suck so bad for this team not to make the playoffs.

7 wins in a row and the Mets are still behind Atlanta. It's so annoying. Every time they win, the other teams win.

Sweeping the White Sox is one thing, sweeping the Red Sox is another. Can't let up against the Reds and Blue Jays, and of course the Phillies loom behind.

It's too bad that Lindor was so absolutely terrible the first month-and-a-half of the season. His last 95 games are absolutely MVP-worthy (.312/.379/.569 slash line, with excellent defense at shortstop), but those first 45 games (.190/.265/.352) were so bad that I don't see any way he can catch Ohtani. As to whether this is the best season ever by a Mets position player, I would say no. I would put David Wright's 2007 clearly ahead of it (.325/.416/.546, with 30 HR, 34 SB, and a Gold Glove), and his 2008 probably as well (.302/.390/.534, with 30 HR, 124 RBI, and a Gold Glove). Because of Lindor's terrible start, I might also put Darryl Strawberry's 1988 ahead of it (.269/.366/.545, leading the league in HR and SLG, although there's no comparison defensively, of course). Carlos Beltran in 2006 (.275/.388/.594 and a Gold Glove) and John Olerud in 1998 (.354/.447/.551) were also tremendous offensive seasons combined with top-notch defense.

Idiot Reds manager pitches to Vientos with the ghost runner on second instead of walking him to get to Alonso. BOOM, second two-run HR of the night ends it. Eight straight wins, still tied with the Braves.

Jeff McNeil out for at least the rest of the regular season (4 to 6 weeks) with a fractured right wrist after being hit by a curveball yesterday. He had a great five-week stretch from July 14 through August 22 (.317/.383/.634), but cooled down considerably in the last couple of weeks (.200/.368/.267).

The beat goes on. Mets win their ninth in a row, and move into sole possession of the third wild card spot by a game. They're only 1/2 game behind Arizona for the second spot, and 2 games behind San Diego for the first spot. The Mets have not trailed in a game since August 30 (72 straight innings), which is absolutely wild.

Wow, This is pretty wild. Mets in the #3 spot with a game lead on the Braves and just .5 behind the Dbacks for the #2. I'm concerned about losing McNeil, however and that closing schedule is brutal!
