Appreciate the laugh.
I don't either
Can't say I was sorry about Scherzer getting bombed yesterday. He hasn't pitched badly in the past two years, but his pattern of failing in big games in those years seems to have survived his move to Texas. Verlander was also infinitely classier about leaving the Mets than Scherzer was, so it was easy to root for him yesterday.
Now, all that has to happen is for little bro Acuna to turn out to be as good as big bro Acuna. That's not too much to ask for, is it?
Reports are that the Mets are hiring David Stearns as President of Baseball Operations. Eppler will report to him.
Scherzer has a teres major strain (in case you're like me, you need to look at this to know what that is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teres_major_muscle), and is out for the season, and most likely the postseason.
Tommy Pham called out his Mets teammates for being the "least-hardest working group of position players I've ever played with" He added that he had a lot of respect for the work ethics of Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Brandon Nimmo
That's quite a shot at Jeff McNeil. And at the coaching staff in general, and Buck Showalter in particular.
Kodai Senga done for the year, with a sub-3.00 ERA (2.98), and over 200 Ks (202). Only the second Mets rookie to get at least 200 Ks (Doc being the first, of course). He'll probably finish second in the Rookie of the Year balloting, behind Corbin Carroll of Arizona (.866 OPS with 51 SBs).
Mets might have won tonight, but we won't know for a while. They took a 1-0 lead into the ninth, but the Marlins scored two in the top of the ninth to take a 2-1 lead. With two outs, the skies opened up. After a 3 hour 17 minute delay, the game was suspended (with the Marlins manager, Skip Schumaker, once again being an asshole towards the grounds crew). If the game matters for a playoff berth, it will be resumed at the point of the stoppage on Monday, but if it doesn't, it will revert back to the end of the 8th and be a 1-0 Mets victory (Miami currently has 1/2 game lead over the Cubs for the final wild card spot, and owns the tiebreaker). Peterson continued to pitch much better after he was recalled from the minors, finishing with a 3.38 ERA in his final 19 appearances.
Meanwhile, McNeil was put on the injured list after an MRI revealed that he has a slightly torn UCL. Because why not end the season on a high note?
I wish him well but I can't say I'm sad about this.
Posting Tweets isn't working? Anyway...
"Buck Showalter announces that he will not be returning next year and has a message for Mets fans: "I was honored to get a chance to manage a second New York team and I'm proud of what the Mets did... I wish things could've gone better this season because Mets fans deserve that"
From Penthouse to Outhouse.
I guess David Stearns intends to take control. No idea who is available to replace him, but he showed nothing that made him stand out positively as manager of the Mets.
Clip of Stearns earlier today talking about Alonso.
Woo hoo, the Mets won the game on September 28 today.
If these sources are to believed it was Eppler who wanted Vogelbach to get the bulk of the playing time not Buck.
Not a good look if the Manager can't "manage"... especially one with Buck's resume
Pete Alonso has hired Scott Boras to represent him. Most teams have been locking up their “star” players. Mets should have been extended him. Regarding the idea of trading him he has one year left on his contract. Whatcha you getting back with his contract situation? Whatever they decide I hope they don’t let fan emotion cloud their judgement.
Eppler has suddenly resigned. Have to think he found out just how little input he would have on the team's direction going forward.
Is it a coincidence that he's gone when rumors are circulating that he was dictating how Buck handled his roster? It was starting to feel like the media was about to hold him over the fire and maybe he/they didn't want to deal with that?
Hopefully they can sign Counsell, and Stearns will then leave him alone.
