What in the actual hell? Have to think that there is going to be some sort of back story that is going to trickle out. Sure hope the Mets' team doctors know what they're doing. Lost in all of the excitement is whether this is actually a good decision by the Mets. They had better hope that Correa and Lindor stay healthy and productive for at least five or six years, and the Mets had better win a championship or two over that time, or this is going to go down as the worst use of money in sports history. Hello, half-billion dollar payroll (with the tax). Guess the Brett Baty story is over before it gets started. I'll bet Alonso is happy about this, however. Cha-ching!
Was just going to come here to post this. Everything I'm reading is that something came up on Correas physical and the SFG didn't like it. The other doctors that were brought in cleared him and said it was fine and a big nothing burger. SF team doctors still didn't want to do it. Crazy. So he never actually "failed" the physical, it sounds like the SFG got cold feet over something they saw, but outside opinions cleared him. (not sure what happened with the twitter embeds sorry)
When you sign a guy for that kind of money and years, you have to be completely comfortable with the medical results. Cohen doesn't care because he shits money. Not every owner can take that risk. I hope he works out for you. It's a serious commitment.
Most definitely, just weird the team doctors said no, outside doctors said yes and that was enough for them to change their minds. I wonder if the issue was brought up and they tried to lower the contract offer and Boras just said F this. Going to be an interesting story that unfolds over the next few months.
Damn how badly does a team not want you when they are willing to pay 75% of your contract just to get rid of you. Good luck to him! I hope Alvarez ends up being a special player.
I figured as much. Made no sense for the giants to do all that and not follow through if they didn’t have legitimate concerns. I mean how would they get Insurance on the contract? They can’t give those years to him so something major would have to change with their offer.
Is he implying that because Cohen spoke out they can't back out regardless of whatever medical concerns comes up?
