On the verge of only having a 1 game lead. Shouldn't be looking like this against a last place team that's 38 games back.

So glad that they’re into the soft part of the schedule …

The team has been lacking that early season spark for a couple of weeks.
Let's hope this isn't the beginning of a September meltdown.

The pirates are in last place 29 games back. Our team looks dead and unaware that they are hanging on by a thread.

Taijuan Walker has a 6.48 ERA since the All-Star break.

Taijuan Walker shouldn't be on the Mets postseason roster.

Lacking the killer instinct if they continue to play down to the competition.... Nats , then Pirates. This team shouldve lost maybe 2 games total in that spread:confused:

Finally the kind of game you should have against a team like this, with Bassitt and Naquin leading the way. Hopefully Jake can throttle them tonight and the Mets can get the sweep.

The requested throttling occurs (7 scoreless innings for Jake), and loads of breakout games for struggling Mets hitters (25 baserunners in 9 innings). Half-game up.

Bassitt has been solid, would you sign him to a 3-year deal(he's on a 1 yr deal with a mutual option for next season)? He'll be 34 in February.

    They basically have to.

Walker is gone. Carrasco will most likely be gone.

I certainly don't feel good about having deGrom/Scherzer/Peterson/MeGill as their 4 man rotation. Do you?

The MLB Competition Committee is going to vote tomorrow on a bunch of rule changes designed to speed up the game. The proposed rules are expected to pass. I like some, don't like others. Specifically:
    • A 15-second pitch clock with the bases empty and a 20-second clock with runners on - like this one

    • Two disengagements from the rubber -- including pickoff attempts -- per plate appearance - don't like this one; I think it gives too much of an advantage to the runner

    • A requirement by hitters to be in the batter's box and "alert" with eight seconds to go on the clock. Hitters are allowed one timeout per plate appearance - like this one

    • Only two infielders will be allowed on each side of second base, with all four required to be on the dirt (or inner grass) - don't like the shift requirement (hitters should learn to hit the other way if necessary), do like not allowing fielders to set up in the outfield. Of course, this won't speed up the game at all, since more hitters are going to reach base as a result, but it's designed to help hitters, which it will.

    • Infielders cannot position themselves on the outfield grass before the pitch is thrown - as above, like this one

    • Bases will increase in size from 15 inches squared to 18 - meh; I've never been enamored with the stolen base as some people are, but supposedly in the minors it reduced injuries around the bases
