The issue with Lindor is that he's not hitting the ball nearly as hard as he did in his 2017-2019 heyday. Over 2017-2019 he had a slugging percentage of .514, 43.9% of his balls in play had an exit velocity over 95 MPH, 25.0% were line drives, 40.7% were ground balls, 25.7% were fly balls, and he averaged 34 home runs. This year his corresponding numbers are .432, 39.4%, 20.1%, 42.6%, 28.5%, and a prorated 28 HRs. That's noticeably more ground balls and fly balls, and noticeably fewer line drives and home runs. As always, RBI are much more a dependent statistic, reflecting the ability of others to get on base. Lindor's 2017-2019 numbers suggested a possible HoF trajectory, but his OPS has been more than 100 points lower since then. I think this year is a more likely future trajectory than last year, but this isn't what they were hoping for when they laid out that $340+ million.
I have absolutely no faith that we are going to see deGrom until we actually see deGrom, and I don't understand how anyone else can, either.
Yeah, I'm over deGrom. Dude is softer than Charmin Ultra Soft. Every little thing with this guy is a problem. Hope he opts out and signs somewhere else.
A bullpen arm that’s given 17.2 innings for a guy that can DH and has a .862 OPS vs right handed pitching.
That is clearly the motivation for the trade. I think it also pretty much seals the deal that Dom Smith won't be on the team in 2023. They clearly expect to make a deal for someone better than Holderman in the next 10 days, so their ability to do that (along with how well Vogelbach does, of course) will go a long way to determining if this turns out to be a good trade or not.
I think this is a bad trade. Giving up a solid piece in the bullpen(or a piece for a better player) for a barely above the Mendoza line type platoon DH? I mean I’m sure this isn’t gonna be all they do but still. It’s a head scratcher to me but whatever now. He’s here I root him on. Hopefully someone starts hitting because this team right now sucks!
I am so sick of the pathetic balls-and-strike calls in the major leagues - they can't bring in robot ball/strike calls quickly enough to my taste. The terrible call immediately leads to a 2-0 deficit, and it's hard to see this lineup doing anything about it.
What the hell is Keith talking about? The Mets are on a good run? If they lose this game they will be 20-18 since June 6, losing 8 1/2 games in the standings (I'm assuming that the Braves will hold onto their current 5 run lead over the Angels).
This team needs hitting infinitely more than they need bullpen rams and it isn’t even close at this point.
A feeble sign of life in the 9th if you want to call it that (Davis' hit was a popup, after all), but another bad loss. Braves just won, so the lead is down to 1/2 game. Out of first place tomorrow?
