That's it for Harvey - 5 1/3 IP, 0 runs, 3 hits, 3 BBs, 11 Ks (Mets record for a major league debut). Also 2/2 at the plate, becoming the first guy in 112 years to get at least 10 Ks and at least 2 hits in his major league debut. Unfortunately it's now up to the worst bullpen in baseball to try to preserve his win.
Harvey on the bullpen doing the job for him: "They've been doing it all year, so I knew they'd come through for me." It's good to support your teammates, Matt, but don't say patently ridiculous things.
yeah, what they've been doing all year is giving away games. "You know, I really expected the bullpen to give it up. I've been watching this team and they've been doing it all year, so I was flabbergasted when Bobby managed to somehow not give up an extra base hit."
So much for the Harvey magic. Mets take a 2-0 lead (including a Davis HR), and then Niese gives it all away with 3 singles, a walk, another hit, and then an infield hit where he throws the ball away for 2 unearned runs. 6-2 Arizona. Bay also made a nice catch and came up limping, but that could actually be a good thing for the Mets.
I think we are sellers at trade deadline can see Hairston and Byrdak going . Bay is a fucking waste of a roster spot...end of story...makes me laugh when I see Beltran listed as a bad signing etc when we have pieces of shit like Bay who couldnt hit .260 if he tried. Give me CB any day of the week over some anaemic fuckstick like Bay
Listing Beltran as a bad signing is ridiculous - he was one of the best hitters the Mets have ever had, and played an excellent CF before he got hurt, and an excellent RF afterwards. He also brought Wheeler back in a trade. Yes, he had a year-and-a-half when he was hurt, but that's the only negative thing you can say (anyone who points to a single pitch in October is crazy).
What kind of contract are we going to have to sign Wright to this off season? Same exact deal that Reyes got, or more?
It will have to be more unless Wright's agent is a moron. Wright does not rely on his speed as much as Reyes, so one would think Wright will still be the same type of player 5 years from now. Reyes, on the other hand, won't be a big base stealer in a few years and he doesn't hit homers anymore. Furthermore, the Mets could afford to lose Reyes because they still had a "face of the franchise" (that is such a gay saying; there has to be something better) in Wright. Well, if Wright leaves, then who is the guy to sell to the fans? Will Ike Davis be the new man? Or will Josh Thole be the man? This is making me sick just thinking about it. If the Mets let Wright leave, then I will become a fan of another team, but not the Cubs or Red Sox.
It's really incredible how 2 weeks can swing an entire season. Time to sell whatever we can and bring up the kids. And I know I said it already but Mark Grace is awful... just a perfect example of a guy who doesn't know how to shut his mouth or get off his own dick.
