There are like 8 teams who are holding the rest of the owners hostage. Teams like the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, and Boston don't care about these numbers. It's the Pirates, Orioles, Guardians, Marlins. A’s, Rockies, Tigers, Royals, Twins, & Dbacks that hold these negotiations up. I think it takes 7 or 8 vetoes to turn down a deal and these are the ones who do it Passan said a few hours ago that they are extending the deadline to 5:00 pm today which hopefully means they can get something hammered out.
Now that the Mets has an owner willing and able to spend some serious dough they are gonna act like little bitches?
I’m seeing favorability of Playoff expansion, but I think it’s a terrible idea! If you’re gonna let everyone to the dance why even have a regular season? You’re just diluting it! I mean look at the NBA and even the NHL.
Never had an issue with two wild card teams; every major sport has more than one wild card. 14 team playoff is ridiculous.
Neither sides appear to care about the viability of the sport going forward. The sport is in trouble and they don’t get it!
I’ve said if baseball wanted to increase offense the shift would have to be addressed. Which you guys disagreed with but I understand why. I mean it would have been nice if the offense adapted & you didn’t have to tinker with things to make thing easier for them. I don’t think removing the shift messes with the integrity of the game like for example having a runner start at second. I think it will places more importance on defense and teams are gonna have to think long & hard about playing players out of their position. idk how do you guys feel? https://twitter.com/jonheyman/status/1500613355270291457?s=21
I am okay with mandating that infielders must have one foot on the dirt. I am 100% against banning shifts.
Maybe the players should learn how to hit to the opposite field instead of trying to pull everything. It's so irritating. The shift leaves a massive hole in the infield. Just learn to hit it there.
I agree! If it was that easy wouldn’t it have been done by now? I mean it seems like every year these pitchers are throwing harder and faster? Maybe trying to directionally hit balls going that hard & fast isn’t as easy as people seem to think?
I grew up watching guys like Rod Carew, Pete Rose, Robin Young, Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, Derek Jeter, George Brett, etc. I just feel that those guys would have adapted their game. Fucking guys can't even bunt anymore.
All these teams all these years could spend money with impunity and now that the Mets have a guy willing and it's a freaking issue? I mean come on!
Looks like the deal is done. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/10/sports/baseball/mlb-lockout-ends.html The deliberate targeting of Cohen is total BS, of course, but fortunately he has the money to be able to laugh it off. A former student of mine works for Point72, and I've told her that it's very important that she keep making money for him, so the Mets can keep spending money.
It seems the harder baseball tries, the more it fucks it's own product National League DH... meh Expanded playoffs..... meh Not forcing low spending teams to match revenue sharing with player payroll.... meh
The one I like is allowing corporate logos and advertising on uniforms. Baseball uniforms soon to look like FIFA uniforms.
