I'll be surprised if the Mets win the nightcap - this might be the biggest game of the season for the Yankees, all things considered.
No surprise that Jake has been named to the All-Star team (the only Met), but he's supposed to pitch next Sunday, which means he'll probably be replaced. It would be nice (and appropriate) if he was replaced by Walker or Stroman. Walker has never been an All-Star, so I would like it to be him (his numbers are also slightly better than Stroman's).
Don't really understand why Ron and Gary are so down on Lindor bunting with a man on second and no one out down by a run. I give Lindor credit - he knows that he has sucked for half the season, and realizes that against an excellent pitcher like Woodruff he would probably strike out if he swung away. The idea that sac bunts are a bad idea doesn't really apply in a situation where, between the pitcher and hitter involved, the expected batting average for the hitter was probably about .180. And that doesn't even take into account how bad the Mets have been as a team all year at the plate. And I started this post before Dom then drove in the tying run with a sac fly.
I'm surprised - they clearly wanted to get the game in so deGrom could pitch on Sunday on normal rest, and the weather is finally going to clear up in the next 15 to 30 minutes. I wonder if the umpires insisted on 2 1/2 hours being enough? Two seven inning games tomorrow - maybe Jake could pitch a complete game?
deGrom gives up a leadoff home run. I think we can stop with the idea that he's going to have a 1968 Gibson-like season.
Lindor with the bloop hit RBI. As they say, they're all line drives in the boxscore the next day. The real story of this run is Nimmo - excellent at bat for the double, and excellent baserunning to score on the bloop.
Jake the second-fastest in MLB history to reach 1500 strikeouts (Yu Darvish is #1). He definitely seems to be getting stronger as the game is going along.
