I guess I couldn't even consider that Rojas would order something like that, but if he did, yes, that's a fireable offense. Apparently Rojas wasn't that stupid, since he talked to Lindor on the bench afterwards. As far as Lindor goes, of course I said right up front that he wasn't worth the money, but also that I didn't care, since it wasn't my money. The problem is that the early returns on his mental toughness have been almost 100% negative. Hopefully he'll get through that.
So Lindor claims that he and McNeil were just laughingly arguing about whether Lindor saw a rat or a raccoon. That is so monumentally bizarre that it just might be believable.
This whole rat / raccoon thing is just getting weirder and weirder. Very interesting to see how Todd Zeile is very down on the story, thinking it's both 100% bullshit and insulting to the press and the fans. I was also happy to hear him call the team out on all the Diesel Donny crap, which I thought was incredibly unprofessional, and actually hastened the firing of Chili Davis (which they then hypocritically cried about afterwards). I guess to me what it really comes down to is just more evidence that Rojas has no idea how to run a major league team.
All they had to say was we had a disagreement on a defensive play and we squashed it. People would have moved on but no they have to turn Dispute that happens with every team into a Circus. lol
Step 1: Do something embarrassing. Step 2. Say something stupid to try to cover it up. Step 3. Realize that you said something stupid. Step 4. Double down on the stupidity, because now you have something else to be embarrassed about. Step 5. Go to Step 3. Anyone who has ever been the parent of a child between the ages of 5 and 10 or so is very familiar with this pattern. Sigh.
And then the next batter doubles, and Pillar gets shaken up. So much for that - now it's back to worrying about winning the game.
What the hell? All of a sudden deGrom looks like Peterson, a walk making it bases loaded and none out.
That was one of the worst innings deGrom has had since 2018. I hope it isn't physical. Of course, an awful inning for him still results in only one run scoring.
