Makes you think about how good of a deal we got for deGrom. Jakes only making ~$2million/year more and has multiple Cy Young’s to show for it. What does wheeler have? DeGrom would be getting $30+ if we didn’t sign him when we did. Good move. And now in more important news (maybe?)
There's no hard salary cap in MLB, so if you've got the money you can spend it, but that is a completely insane contract for someone like Wheeler. I can't get on the Mets for not spending that kind of money on someone who has been decidedly mediocre his entire career.
I don't think that will happen right away. Maybe Cohen likes Brodie? We really have nothing to go off of here. But a lot of losses last year were on Mickey's incompetence. And a lot were on Brodie's very very poorly put together bullpen. Still they did win 86. That's not bad

I wonder if collusion is going to make a comeback? These salaries are so preposterous that owners are going to refuse to pay them. Either that or the only people who will be able to afford to be owners will be billionaires with lots of ready cash (lots of these guys aren't nearly that rich - they own franchises worth billions, but that's not worth anything unless you actually sell (part of) the team). I'll bet this is why the Wilpons are cashing out - they couldn't possibly compete even if they weren't stingy.

With the addition of Wacha and Porcello, our rotation is now is a little crowded. I guess Boobie may be moving one in a possible trade?
The Mets are going to make a trade soon, just not sure for who. They are 2 million below the luxury tax threshold. Most likely going to see Lowrie moved. I'd probably dish Matz + Nimmo for Marte. Maybe Thor + Conforto for Betts but that won't happen.
