Only thing going for us is that the Cubbies play the Cards 11 times in their final 17.

That and half their games are on the road where they are 10 games below .500, including their next 8.

Our next 7 are against teams ahead of us but at home, then 3 against the Dodgers. Ultimately this is the season. If we can get out of these three series 2 games out we have a shot. Anything less than 7-3 and that will likely be a wrap.

Once Matz threw his first pitch of the 5th inning over the catcher's head and then gave up a long fly ball it was clear that he was on his way to losing it. He got out of it with only one run given up, but he should have a short leash from now on.

Diaz brought in with a 4-2 lead to start the bottom of the ninth to try to save the game. Sigh.

Not going to lie...I don’t have the nerves to watch the bottom of the 9th.

And he gives up a two-run home run to tie the game. Fuck Callaway and fuck Diaz.

It's the definition of insanity with Callaway. He keeps expecting a different result. Is he gonna talk about his electric stuff again in the post-show?

Question, why was Lugo unavailable? There was no game yesterday. Have they conceded they aren't going to the postseason?

    Good at bat by Pete.

I fell asleep early last night when it was just 2-0. I didn't catch the score until about an hour ago. I always have a habit of opening Twitter early and I saw a Tweet from Dave Rothenberg about how he was looking forward to Mickey telling us how great Diaz's stuff was during the postgame -- Instantly closed Twitter with a sick feeling that we lost.

Does Diaz have the Sonny Gray or Zach Greinke syndrome where he just can't pitch in NY? This is lunacy already.
