If it takes Matz a long while to settle in I'm not sure how bullpen stint is going to help with that? Wouldn't every game out of the bullpen be like the 1st inning for him?
I can't believe that this is a decision Callaway would have the right to make, so this is presumably BVW's idea. They think that by him having little time to prepare before he comes in it will somehow help that he seems so unprepared when he starts a game? I don't see it, but clearly they have no clue how to fix him at this point.
And off we go - Diaz dogs it on the grounder to first and gets beaten to the bag for a so-called base hit.
Diaz with another good outing and the Mets win. Yankees don't hit a home run for the first time after 31 straight games.
As someone who shares a household with Yankees fans, I'm so happy that HR streak is over. They own the record, so it was time to end. I was sick of hearing about it as if it was something important, plus it only served as a daily reminder of the juiced baseball this year.
That’s why you don’t waste challenges. Though a scoring play of that importance a crew chief challenge should gave been initiated.
Oh, and as far as the challenge goes, we don't really have to talk about how clueless Callaway is, do we?
Familia predictably pours more gasoline on the fire. Brodie has done such an awful job how do you even trust him to make the right decisions going forward?
Eh, who cares? What could he possibly say that would the slightest difference? Maybe some day he'll demonstrate some competence, but at this point he is as bad at his job as Callaway is at his. Him talking about what a terrible job he's done won't change that.
The players have to stand there and take it. The coach has to stand there and take it. I think GM should stand there and take it. Even if it's lip service.
Matz has issues in the 1st innings, but let’s put him in the bullpen & throw out the idea of him as a closer. Logical!
I don't understand BVG getting angry at Callaway after the blown game a couple nights ago. He's the one that traded for Diaz. I'm no fan of Callaway, but it's not his fault that the guy who is supposed to be a top closer in the league is routinely laying eggs. The reason why so many of Callaway's in game decisions fail is because he doesn't have reliable talent in the bullpen. Yeah, many of them are Callaway being a bonehead, but it's hard not to be when your bullpen is that atrocious. It's like each night is a gamble on picking which relief pitcher won't fail. Brody should be upset, he's probably going to get canned.
Is it safe to say Brodie needs more experience just to become a marginal GM? Lucky for him he has Jeffy Wilpon because no other GM would have been so stupid as to hire an agent to be a GM, then green light this GM signing some of his former clients. No conflict of interest here.. No sirree...
