So, how did Terry cost them the Series last year? How did they underachieve with Terry last year? Should he have called Familia's pitches in the Series maybe? In other words, if we don't win the Series this year it's Terry's fault? This is all for naught this year too? He ain't getting fired this year. You're gonna have to live with it. I'm not a big Wright fan, never have been . But this thing with Wright being some anchor to the team and that Terry's handling of him is costing us has little to do with what's happened so far. Wright's got an OBP of .426 in the two hole right now, That's excellent. There's no magic buttons for the MGR. to push. It's up to the players, the whole roster of players and Terry uses the whole roster, he always has. Our Manager has been in Professional Baseball for like 50 years, and has the full support of the FO. And more importantly his players - They love him and they play all out for him. They always have. They've never underachieved with him. The idea that he doesn't know what he's doing is preposterous.
I'm looking back at some of the early season posts and I'm laughing my ass off. It's amazing how easily people panic. I think we have a 95-100 win roster and a slump here or there isn't going to change my opinion. The only thing that would move the needle would be a string of unfortunate injuries. Among a handful of other factors, I mostly hang my hat on this ... Last season we got a combined 30 starts from Syndergaard, Matz and Wheeler. This year that number should be around 70. That's all the difference we'll need.
Lets not get carried away guys... This was Citizens Bank Park and its a hitters park. The Mets turning the place into a launching pad is great, but lets hope it carries over to when we get into the harder parts of the schedule since we can't play Philly 81 times.
Agreed. Same way people were ready to pencil us in for a .500 season after the first 7 games , they shouldn't overreact to these last 6 games either. But I think this team is a little more like what we've seen the last few days than what we watched the first few games of the season.
I don't see any reason to be cautiously optimistic this season. This was a WS team last year and we have equal expectations this year. I'm more apt to believe that when we actually play like it that it is indicative of what this team is and should be.
I love baseball season. Every night something to watch and every night we throw out a pitcher who makes it interesting. I don't think I have ever enjoyed / looked forward to a season this much and it's still only April.
Cespedes, Duda Back2Back!! Home Runs are nice but it would be great if this team could score without them. lol
This is where again they really need to consider taking DW out for defensive purposes late innings. Not that the throw was his fault but it would have been nice if he could at least have gotten a glove on the popup.
And this sounds like something that would happen to the Jets: Adam Rubin @AdamRubinESPN 44s45 seconds ago Travis d'Arnaud misunderstood motion from dugout. Staff didn't want intentional walk in the 11th. If there was miscommunication why wasn't it cleaned up after the first pitch?
Walt, before we get into a war of words, we have to establish some common ground, we are both Met Fans that want them to win, period! However you and I see things from a different perspective: Number one, just because Terry has been in baseball for a long time, does not make him a good manager. If that were the case, many of the guys in baseball would be qualified to be managers of all the teams in baseball, but we know that is not the case. I'm also not going to blame terry for everything that goes wrong on the field, I would be unreasonable in my perspective if I did that. Now, The team that was put together last year without Wright after Cespedes, Uribe, Johnson were brought in went on a tear, the likes which I have not seen in a while, they had the right combination of power and average hitters. Terry should have discerned that before reinstating Wright back into the lineup. The team went on an offensive slump AFTER Wright was reinstated into the line up because the chemistry was thrown off, there is such thing as lineup chemistry, just ask the Royals. He should have platooned him and gradually played him, instead he just threw him in and let it take its course. As far as the playoffs, I felt that Wright should have been dropped in the line up, and Conforto should have been moved up, it was not just me, but many on this board wanted Conforto moved up. Hitters hit, and he had proven beyond any doubt that he was a hitter, Terry still refused to move him up, it was not till the Cleveland series this year that the light went off over Terry's head and he thought about moving Conforto up. Being a good Manager is not about calling pitches for pitchers or micromanaging, it's about having a feel for situations, and the lineup. He is always reactive with things that go on in the field and his lineups. He made a comment about not developing players when asked about Conforto, how is that not part of his responsibility? Triple A is only going to prepare these young guys for the majors, it's his job to develope rookies. That's just my 2cents, we will just have to agree to disagree on our perspective of Terry. Anywho, last year is last year, I'm looking forward to a good year this year especially when the pitching staff is healthy. I respect your opinion, but I'm no longer going to comment about something that we don't see eye to eye on. Enjoy your spring, and Let's go Mets!
They made it to the World Series. What happened with Wright before that means nothing at that point, zero. Shoulda coulda woulda becomes irrelevant. Terry had them in position to win the first game with a lead and Familia on for the save. They win that game they're in a good spot. Then Familia blows another. Who cares about Wright and how he handles him before that. The 'chemistry' was fine at that point. If Familia makes that save and Cespy hits Wright shouldn't even be in the discussion. Maybe he should've benched Cespy? 50 years doesn't make him a good manager, but what you're saying doesn't make him a bad manager, and he's where he is for a reason. What, and Sandy's a bad GM for keeping him? He doesn't know any better? And to imply that a baseball man like him doesn't know what he's doing over what's gone down with David Wright is something I can't begin to agree with. You wanna change the lineup every time someone doesn't hit? It doesn't work that way. He knows what's best for the team. You wanna second guess every thing he does? Who's not hitting now? Let's blame Terry for Grandy hitting .175. "Change the lineup!" " What's he doing?!" Okay, who then? He HAS to rely on his veterans to lead the way in lieu of proto type players for particular batting spots. He's plays the cards he dealt. He knows what all his players can and can't do. He knows better than anybody the strengths of his roster and what his guys can do best. There's no placating or bullshit with him. He wants to win and he wouldn't jeopardize that for anybody, including Wright. Like he would sacrifice what's best for everybody, and winning, for Wright. I watch his pressers. He explains everything he does, including his lineups. I've never thought he gave an explanation that wasn't satisfactory. Or ever thought he said anything that betrayed not caring about the well being of anybody or how the organization doesn't look out for the development of anybody, including Conforto. Conforto is excelling. Of course Terry's gonna look out for him. He probably said something to a dumbass writer. If Conforto wasn't ready he wouldn't be there! I watch the pressers. These guys ask some stupid dumb shit, a lot. Sandy and Terry know exactly what they're doing with Conforto. Terry needs him to do well. He's not gonna sacrifice Conforto's development. C'mon. Terry shits out more baseball knowledge every day than all the media will ever have combined. I think he's funny when he gets exasperated explaining things over and over, and answering the same stupid questions. Fuck the media. They're right there with the Jets media looking to stir the shit and lookin' to knock 'em down As far as I'm concerned Terry and Sandy have done a good job explaining what they've done in their approach all along, and keeping the media at bay at the same time. Some people still have an axe to grind with them tho, they don't understand, or they just don't like them.
Telling start tonight for Harvey. If he goes out there and stinks it up again there will be some serious question marks going further.
Come on Matt, show people rumors of your demise have been greatly exaggerated. Though yeah, if he has another bad outing, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried.
I am not worried about Harvey. He will sill be an average to an above average starter for us. He just isn't the #1 he and TC think he is.
Pretty damn average outing for Harvey. More bad than good IMO , but maybe most of that bad was due to sitting for an hour after the 1st inning. Hate to keep making excuses for the guy though. But something tells me if he was pitching against a better team tonight he would've gotten his doors blown off.
