It really doesn't matter. How about signing a AAAA shortstop - someone who won't keep letting balls go through his legs? Davis is such a drain on the team at this point that anyone at any position would be better. His WAR is -1.6 after only 1/3 of a season, and that is not easy to do.
And they blow the lead once again. Can't blame the defense for that one. I said this guy Ramirez fit right in after his first appearance, and that continues.
This bullpen is making ill. Ike is making me ill. The defense made me ill. Playing short handed made me ill. Sandy be a GM, and do something.
This bullpen is beyond bad and frankly we have to do something as the SP is excellent and Gee in particular has stepped it up significantly. Question is how do we get a quality relief pitcher....with the abundance of prospects at SP in AAA/AA do we trade one of our starters to bring in relief. At least Meijia is on his way up which will help. Ref Ike the guy looks clueless and is a waste of a roster spot at the moment , he looks lost at the plate and we should move Duda to 1b and have an outfield of Bay / Hairston / Torres / Baxter / Captain K.
I decided to do some looking just to see how bad this bullpen has really been, I will take issue with Parnell even though he has a low ERA 2.88 looking at his Inherited runners this season he has inherited 15 runners and 6 have scored (40%) which of course keeps his ERA low but hurts the team. He is also 2 for 2 in blowing saves. He does have 11 holds. Francisco W/L : 1-3 ERA: 5.40 Saves: 14 Blown Saves: 3 Rauch Some different numbers but he is awful Save Situations : 4, Blown Saves : 3 Inherited Runners: 7 Inherited Runners who scored : 4 (57%) 5 losses in relief ERA: 4.76 Ramon Ramirez is even worse then Rauch ERA 4.78, BS 2 for 3, IR: 13 IRS: 6 (46%) here is a nice stat line; since May 1st the Mets have lost 9 of the 11 games Ramirez has pitched in including 7 of the last 8 I'll make the argument that Byrdak has been the best pitcher out of the bullpen for the Mets this season. He has the 2nd lowest ERA 3.52, he is also 2-0 on the season, however he is 1 for 1 in blown saves. He has inherited 29 runners and only 5 have scored which is 17%. It should be noted though that he has pitched 10 less innings then Parnell As a whole they are 10-14, with 12 blown saves in 28 opportunities (43%) the league average is 33% (my eyes pop out when I see that), it's almost even money that they'll blow a save. 35% of the runners they have inherited have scored (which is greatly reduced thanks to Byrdak) the league average is 28%.
Blown saves is a bad stat. Whenever a reliever gives up the lead in the 7th inning or later it counts as a blown save.
Even after taking 3/4 from the Cards, if they lose tonight I'll think they're looking at a pretty tough stretch coming up. They could fall off here.
