    Nice!
That's what my brother told his wife last night as he picked up a ticket for tonight on stub hub, and got on a plane this morning........ So stoked it worked out for him tonight. Got a phone call with some loud undiscernable screaming. ha.
I was 12 in '86, he was 9....... we moved to FL that summer so I missed the parade (but I made a big LETS GO METS sign from a refrigerator sized moving box and nailed it to the palm tree outside our house) I want to see one this time.
Over the years I've softened my baseball fandom and more into the JETS, but this shit has me feeling like a kid again...

It's not done, still 5 more.

    LETS GO METS!

yes he was a catcher originally but maddon wants a good defensive catcher

    schwarber is like Jesus Montero

a catcher but too much of a liability there... so he has no position

because he had C-eligibility I used him many times on draftkings

I'm not of the camp that I'd rather rest while my opponent stays in rhythm. 06 is a prime example. Detroit destroys Oakland in 4 and looks like the prohibitive favorite against the Cards who went 7 against the mets. Cards dominated the series in 5 I believe. I'd rather KC finish it off tomorrow as well and both teams have the same break.

That's exactly my thinking as well, the Rockies were another prime example. Had come in as maybe the hottest team in the history of baseball and got a long rest and were toast for the Red Sox.

I almost gave that as a second example.

not that I prefer to play the Royals over the Jays, but I'll be rooting for KC to wrap it up ahead of the Mets game because I'll be shocked if we lose the game.

my only visit to Coors came in August of that year

went to three games, got Ian Stewart's autograph (he never became anything)

    Rockies promptly got red hot

You guys need to be glad that Terry Collins is reading my posts on TGG :p

I said it before the series started...The way for the Mets to overcome the Cubs is to play unconventional baseball for them. Small ball, steal bases and get in scoring position to make something out of anything. HRs wont win them games all the time

Look at all those bounces today, its straight up radio gold in Chicago now. All those Cubs...timing blunders, missed catches, errors, pass through infield balls, hitter strikeouts. It seems like Schwarber is the only one trying to change his game.

Maddon is persistent that they need to hit HR's to win...That is not what you need to win a World series anymore. The Giants showed that to everyone with their 3 titles and Royals getting to World Series last year.

Anything is possible as my Yankees lost in a really shitty way to those Red Sox in 2004 but this Cubs team is mentally done...This is no 2004 Red Sox, that Yankees team had bad pitching and sluggers everywhere. This Mets team has 4 potential Aces in the Major Leagues.

Its like watching the SF Giants again.

You can also look at it on the other end as well, the Red Sox came in red hot after beating the Yankees in the GYC year and they swept the Cardinals. Is it possible the Red Sox lose to the Cardinals if they win in 4 or 5 against the Yankees and get a long rest? Maybe? I doubt it as they were clearly the superior team but a layoff instead of riding high on the emotions of the way they won might have made it a much tougher series.

    Two other points on d'Arnaud.

He has been catlike pouncing on balls in front of the plate and getting runners by a step at first.

And the way he has been framing and catching some balls slightly off the plate and subtlety bringing them back in the zone has stolen at least a dozen strikes. He doesn't jerk his mitt back over the plate, he gives it a slight nudge and the umps are giving it to him.

The greatest trick Terry Collins ever pulled , was convincing our fan base he was incompetent.

I wouldnt say he's outcoached Maddon. The players are doing the talking. But he has not been a liability against the best manager in the league.

And that was a worry of mine coming into this series.

Yes! That is a great pickup Stokes. Travis is terrific at framing the pitches. I played catcher in high school and college and have gone to a ton of camps. The catchers always always always teach you how to just turn your wrist. When catching a ball that is high in the zone you turn your wrist down as soon as the ball hits the glove. It's the slightest movement but makes the greatest difference.

Once umpires see you with this herkey jerkey motion of framing pitches you won't get shit called for you. I tend to believe it actually pisses them off like, "oh you're gonna trick me? Nope don't think so boy." Last night montero was moving his entire arm when the pitch was a little off the black and that's why I don't think they got the same calls because it looked like he moved it too much.

Having said that, I do think we got a LOT of borderline calls that they didn't get.

We definitely did and I know for a fact Travis was part of the reason. He is terrific at it. If you understand the techniques of catching it really is a joy to watch.

EDIT - montero is just sloppy behind the plate. On those balls in the dirt he was just lazy. He went down to block and the number one rule is to keep the glove on the ground and fall forward. Let the ball bounce off your equipement. There is no tremendous advantage to having it in the glove. The risk isn't worth the reward. On numerous balls in the dirty he had his glove a few inches up off the ground and what's worse is if you do that you have to close your feet behind you so in case it does get through it won't roll to the backstop. He did neither. That's just basic stuff man. A professional should have that mastered by now

By the way, I'm sure Collins doesn't care but I'd rather we get to the WS and let Maddon win Manager of the Year Award.

That's going to feel really empty for him knowing Collins has out managed him in this series.

Collins has done a fantastic job.

    Ah, the "shoe polish" game.

Didn't attend the WS (Yankee fan but rooted/rooting for the Mets in '69 and '15...not '86 lol), but instead as a youngster was sitting in the center field bleachers at Yankee Stadium during game 1 of the '69 World Series watching Notre Dame - Army with my brother. Joe Theisman to Tom Gatewood (43-0). O's-4, NYM-1. Koosman bounced back big in game 2 and it was off to the races from there.

If I could be guaranteed a Mets World Series win, I'd almost want the Blue Jays to make a miraculous comeback against K.C. just so the Mets pitching staff could shove their HR showboating bats up their ass. Or as Champ would put it:

And should the Cubs somehow scratch out a win in game 4, they then face the prospects of facing Harvey in game 5?? ...... goodnight Gracie.

Amazing the 180-degree turnaround from the "trade one of the stud pitchers for some offense!" mid-season discussions. Cespedes: manna from heaven-hellava job Alderson. Props.
