So the solution is to have someone else do stupid shit to him that can seriously hurt him? Or even worse some other player on the Dodgers that had nothing to do with the play? Where does it end? Comparing fighting to throwing a 100mph fastball at someones head is also pretty idiotic. If some Met had thrown down his glove and squared up with Utley after that play last night no one would've had a problem with it.
To Mets fans, you guys got hosed last night... Dirty slide, unbelievable ruling for umps after the review. Just a wow moment for baseball fans, they totally got that call wrong.
He let Noah go one batter too long as it was, it was turning into Grady Little-Pedro. Noah was at 110+ and laboring the previous two innings (unlike deGrom on Friday, who got stronger as the game went on). He should have had Reed in with one out and a man on first latest, but if you're going to bring in Colon then keep him in. Don't take your length guy out after one batter in a tie game. Terry was almost as moronic as MLB/the umps.
Not only did he never touch the base, he never even attempted to slide into or touch the base, and yet he is awarded the base? What the flying fuck?
only got to watch the first four innings of last night's game watching condensed version of the rest very dirty that should not be part of baseball to me, the rules should be simple and allow for a normal slide into second you can't start your slide at the bag or slide into the outfield to try to injure the fielder (as often happens, and the claim is the runner if he stretched his arm all the way out might've been able to touch the base) it should be a judgment call, and the umpires should determine whether it's a legit slide or not anyone could tell you that that was not a legit slide
It's a ridiculously dirty play. Anybody who doesnt think so probably doesnt watch a lot of baseball. Utley has been doing this for years. Torre needs to step up and do something. That's a not a hard play, thats not a tough play. That's a dirty play, it's a cheap shot.
Yes He broke another guys leg with a dirty tackle. I'm not even calling that a slide. Unfortunately somebody on the Dodgers has to pay so Utley thinks twice about doing something like that again. It's the ugly side of baseball but that is the way the game works.
It's not the way the game works. And throwing at Adrian Gonzalez's head is not going to stop plays like that from happening in the future, only punishing the players that do it with fines and suspensions is going to make people think twice before attacking another player.
It is how the game works. That's how the games been played since its beginning. You don't throw at a guys head. You hit them in the lower back area.
very dirty play.......went into his slide practically parallel to the base. apparently Utley went in late at Tejada in a previous game. if Harvey wanted to drill someone Monday it would likely lead to warnings, and not immediate ejection. if that is the case, I wouldn't be surprised if Harvey drilled the dodger shortstop. the mets have to respond and the sooner the better.
agree kev......there is a fine line, but a definite line, between a dirty play and aggressive play. Utley should be fined and suspended. and yes the mets need to drill someone and break their fukin hand.
No wrong, it's the way the game is. That's the reality and truth, it's the way the game works. I said beaned in anger last night after the assault because I was enraged, I didn't mean it like that. But you want to be literal for your little morality play If Utley's in there he should be hit in the knee. If he's not, Gonazalez needs to be hit in the ribs and then maybe get punched in the face if he doesn't like it. But he'll hide behind somebody, watch. Take your passive moral bs up with Bob Gibson, Don Drysdale, Nolan Ryan...or maybe the hockey thread. Dopey
Just the fact that Victorino said he loved the play says how shitty and dirty it was. If it was a Jeter type player the outcome would have been different. Meanwhile a steady second tier steady player may have had his career ended. As a Met/Jet fan I have seen this type of reffing far too many times. And to think I was an old time Bklyn Dodger fan.
Chase Utley would probably agree with you. Problem is it's not acceptable behavior just because a bunch of meatheads did it 30 years ago. You can't level defenseless receivers in football coming across the middle anymore because WRs were ending up with scrambled brains . It's even more ridiculous that in baseball a player can initiate contact with another for any reason.
Meat heads? And you can't take out a prone defenseless INF in the manner in which Utley did. There are repercussions for your actions and they affect everyone, including your teammates. Get real. Just don't watch. If something happens look away Nobody gives gives a fuck that Utley's play was ridiculous or wrong. Utley doesn't. Passive resistance is not applicable here. C'mon man, stop lecturing to a bunch of miserable Mets and Jets fans reacting to that prick Utley, please, lol
Of course he doesn't care. And he's not going to care if some teammate gets beaned for him either. Also, it's a playoff series, they should be worried about winning games not how to get "revenge" on someone that had nothing to do with the play. If they were that pissed that they felt like they needed to do something it should've happened last night after it was 5-2 and the game was lost, not 2 days after the fact in a new game.
That has never worked that way in the history MLB. There has always been on field justice after the fact. If anything your passive approach, to let something like that happen because it's 'wrong', probably prevented some one to go get him..... Like Ray Knight went after Eric Davis in '86. Oh man that was so wrong of Ray There's no way in HELL that move would ever have been tolerated by the '86 Mets...Even if it took years to be righted. But they were 'meatheads'. We'll just wait for the rules to change and take it in the meantime. Eeverybody knows that you don't focus on the retaliation, duh, no shit. Of course you bear down for the win. Only an idiot wouldn't be that much more motivated to win the series. Lol Thanks for straightening this all out
