So we have our annual David Wright Fantasy Football draft tomorrow--it's for a charity he takes part in throughout MLB. Show up at Citifield at 10:15 (it's pretty cool being in the ballpark when it's almost completely empty), players come out about 20 mins later and we have a freaking fantasy football draft! Lots of memorabilia, signed baseballs etc. This year it's Wright, Matt Harvey, John Neise, Daniel Murphy and Michael Cuddyear (new entrant for Dillon Gee last year), and as an added bonus we have Adam Schefter on hand to help out. However, if the Brady decision comes down, he's told us he won't be able to attend at Citifield. Lat year I had Wright and Murphy in my league--hoping to get Harvey this year. Weird, last year we did it on an off day. This year, it's on Harvey's day to pitch. I'll get some photos. _
22 of our next 31 are against the Marlins Braves reds and Phillies. There is no reason why we should be on road come round 1 of the playoffs.
Just look at the BAs in the lineup and see that there are almost never sure outs and guys under the Mendoza line anymore and batting averages are very respectable. Not the case just a few months ago . This happened only after the deals Sandy made before the trade deadline. To me the true catylist has been Cespedes even though he's had a few slumps. Other teams fear him and Mets hitters are getting more pitches to hit. Plus it's obvious that psychologically he's given his teammates a boost. The other bats acquired have been productive too. If no deals we'd be out of it and below .500.
And that is why Niese should not start a playoff game. Cant turn a bad inning into a terrible inning. When a team like Philly is able to hurt you with one , you will be hurt by the Dodgers or Giants just as bad or worse.
Niese is pushing himself out of the rotation. Terry won't take much more of this. They have committed themselves to winning this year.
This bullpen is not built for the postseason. We have to cross our fingers that starters are able to go deep.
Easily the worst inning Ive watched all season. When will TC realize that Parnell and O'Flahtery are not guys you can put in, in meaningful situations. EVER Even now , down 14-4 , I still wouldnt want one of those guys in. But its not shocking that were in that position because of em. Down 6-4 the momentum is all on our side. Couldve went to Gilmartin or Reed. But he goes to Parnell? I'd really love to hear the mindset behind that one.
I see Collins is emptying out his garbage tonite from the bullpen. My God those guys suck as a group! None of them should be on the roster for the post season and frankly, none of them should be on the roster at all. Time for Collins and Alderson to bite the bullet and let these kids throw an occasional complete game or at least see the 8th inning during a start if they're ahead.
Clippard and Familia are..maybe Reed too but who knows with that. But there's really no reason why a good chunk of those guys should be on a postseason roster.
In all honesty I feel sorry for Parnell. Did you see him after he threw the ball away just go on the ground and look up at the sky. I think that Gary said he chose the DL over being re-assigned. They won't be using him much except for mop up work. Maybe he can come back in the future. He's coming off of a big injury.
Especially when he winds up going to Gilmartin and Reed later anyway...what a fiasco. Terry almost makes Rex Ryan look like a genius.
