Depends who the other player is. And I don't see what's awful about Wheeler-Bruce. Wheeler isn't pitching till next summer and probably will be on an innings limit in 2017. Bruce is signed for the next two plus years at a REAL nice rate and is a RH power bat which we need.

I'm in a really dark place with this franchise right now. I just don't feel good. Hope I'm wrong, and I very well could be. The last two days has gotten me sick, though.

I don't think Bruce is scrub. I'd take a Jay Bruce on this team. Move Granderson to center and have him play right. Do I think he's worth a player with ace potential? Nope! I don't think the Mets have a lot of options and the Reds have to know that. Whatever they do I hope they do it in time before the Nationals game.

The Mets seem to want to divest themselves of Wheeler. Real bad. I wonder why. Jay Bruce: his Hr numbers have gone down. He's a good player but he makes a lot of money. Any deal would have to include a lot of cash.

Bruce is having a pretty nice season and has been hot lately. He would be a big help for next two seasons. Biggest issue is I'm just not sure moving Grandy to CF is a great idea.

Twitter Mets fans are cracking me up. If twitter is any indication right now it wouldn't be looked like a favorable view. I think at this point there isn't much the Mets can do that wouldn't inspire some hatred from the fans. If the Mets are so welling to give up Wheeler I hope that they at least did their due diligence with the Rockies for Carlos Gonzalez. Wheeler and another player would possibly peek their interest. No? I haven't read the Mets having much interest in him though.

Good question, it seems like nobody has been mentioning him and he is the most appealing out there right now, in my humble and relatively uninformed laymen opinion. I wanted Tulo damn it.

Bruce is due about 30 mil including 2015 and thru 2017. But he's been playing well his last 60 games. Gomez is only due 9 mil next season (and reportedly Sandy was trying to get some of that back from the Brewers). And he's not been hitting the past week and about .240 his last 30 games.

Move Granderson to LF? Platoon Juan/Kirk in CF? Bruce RF? Send Conforto back down? What happens when Cuddyer comes back? Just keep him as the 4th outfielder who occasionally plays 1st?

Or have it Cuddyer/Granderson/Bruce That would be pretty bad defensively. Interesting to see how they would arrange things.

The Brew Crew GM has gone the high road and not ripped the Mets. And gone along with Sandy's story that the Mets had issues with Gomez's health. Of course he might not want to get into a feud with Sandy just in case he wants to deal with him at a later date. But the report on the Mets trying upgrade the financials after agreeing to the deal is making the rounds. And the Milwaukee sportswriter who broke the story is a respected journalist (2 times Wisconsin sportswriter of the year). With a lot of access to the Brewers org. Just read his Twitter page. So where did he get this info. You would think from Doug Melvin himself.

There were also reports from the same paper that carries the blogger that the Brewers had issues with Wheeler. Apparently Wheeler's surgery was a little more complicated than just a straight TJ. That same paper also reported the Mets' issues were Gomez' injuries.

Melvin also said that he was negotiating at the same time with Houston. Both sides, and their agents, would try to protect the value of their player, and their interests, in the face of reports like that. That's common.
That whole thing was a clusterfuck from the start from all sides.

Gomez is a great fit for Houston, and they gave up four prospects for him. One of which was an 'untouchable' first round pick that Melvin said Houston included to land Gomez.

I think the initial reports during that evening were that the Brewers had reservations on Wheeler's health. But it quickly turned and even Sandy admitted he nixed the deal: he claims because of health concerns (hip) on Gomez. I could find nothing dated recently saying that Milw. had anything to do with cancelling this trade. As for the speculation on whether financials had anything to do with it. No smoking gun on that yet. But it's a distinct possibility. I don't blame everything on the Wilpons. Sandy recently stated that the Mets were willing to spend money and even overpay if needed. If he made the trade you can only assume he had the Wilpon's ok to take on that contract ($ 9 million for 2016). Unless the Wilpons shot it down at the last minute leaving Sandy with egg on his face. I kind of doubt that but not impossible.

That's fine. A direct quote. That's what he said originally but it wasn't good enough then. Anything else that's out there is hearsay.

Meanwhile Bruce is being targeted who is less of a fit and more expensive. But he's gonna nickel and dime a trade that was priority at the 11th hour. I guess he's a total idiot.

I don't know if Doug Melvin was asked the question: did the Mets after agreeing to the trade try to change it and get the Brewers to pay some of Gomez's contract. Or ask for a draft pick. Sandy was asked that and said no comment. But the bottom line is why would a respected Milw. reporter make up a story like this. And a guy who has access to the Brewers organization.

The bottom line is Melvin, and Boras, are going to say, and do, anything to protect their commodity. It's part of this stuff and always has been. There's always bluffing and lying in the stuff.

If the Coupons ok'd that spending why on earth would Sandy sabotage that?

Personally I don't give a shit. It's over and we didn't we get the guy I wanted from the start from weeks ago, and I said that here. I'm bummed we didn't get him.
Trades break down since trades began. I'm sure the reasons are sound from all ends.

If you want to try to figure out how Sandy did something incompetent and stupid have at it. Or that he's the cheap one and not the dooshbag Coupons have at it
