I'd love to be able to get Frazier but I'm not giving up Conforto to get him. Any combo of prospects I'd give up that doesn't include Conforto and the 4 SPs and I'm down. I don't think the Reds are trying to trade him though. If they were a package headed by Wheeler might be enough.
I wouldn't trade the top 5 pitchers including Wheeler. They are proven MLB. Conforto is not on this level yet. What I like about him is that he was a great college player and maybe the best bat in last year's draft. He's ahead of the curve in terms of being ready to play on this level. Imo he's going to be a good player esp offensively. I like what I'm seeing. But I'd trade him if a deal for a star bat who would sign with us like Frazier was offered. I really think the Mets have a chance this season. And with their pitching if they made the playoffs in short series they could do well. With just ok hitting. Btw I just read another piece online that said that Sandy when he talked to the Braves inquired about A. Simmons the best defensive shortstop in baseball. They aren't interested in trading him.
Bay actually played very well in Boston which is not a small market team. It's bigger market than the Wilpon Mets. So to say the reason he failed in New York is because he couldn't handle the pressure of being in NYC isn't probably accurate.
Frazier is a pipe dream. Reds might as well move the franchise if they trade that kid. He's surpassed Votto in terms of popularity there. And to me it would most likely take Syndergaard AND Conforto to get him. And probably another mid level guy too. So way too much even for an allstat bat. I would give up Conforto and let's say Montero or Niese but I doubt that's enough. As for realistic trade options we are 1 of 3 teams in real talks with the A's about Clippard. This would be a huge get. Automatically pushes Parnell out of the setup spot and gives us a little closer insurance.
I really hope they get Clippard...no time for Parnell to fiddle fuck around trying to find himself. Meanwhile, Meija comes in and goes right after it. Clippard deepens the late innings relief too. But they need Clippard for the playoffs...hopefully I hope they get your man Cespedes too, somehow. That would be awesome. Looks like a RH hitting OFer is the need.
It will be very interesting to see what they do with the OF if they are able to acquire a bat out there. The potential acquisition will most likely be playing everyday. Grandy isnt going anywhere and Conforto should play everyday..atleast until Cuddyer gets back and can platoon against lefties. So is Lagares the odd man out? Crazy to even say that considering just a couple of months ago we were all looking at him as our CF for the next 10 years. Would a team trade for him considering he's injured? Lots of questions surrounding that. If were gonna trade him Id hope its for a guy signed past next season. Like Carlos Gomez. Sandy said were able to take on one more big contract.
Lagares has been injured all season long. Plus he doesn't have the power numbers of an outfielder. Now you can rest him along with other guys partially injured or in a slump. Duda has looked slightly better lately but he needs more time on the bench. His slump has been going on way too long.
Yeah, I've been hoping for Gomez all along. Ideally he fits in nicely, and you'd have him next year. As PCL stated. Lagares is hurt. He's struggling. If you don't get Gomez you platoon him with Niewenhuis for the D. You get your RH'd bat for LF and even platoon him with Conforto..... Say a Marlon Byrd. Cespedes on the other hand get's LF. Maybe he costs less than Gomez too.
The platoon with Conforto makes sense but then what happens when Cuddyer gets back? Just another bench bat? That would be quite a fall for him. But could make a lot of sense to have that type of pop in the late innings. Cespedes would probably be cheaper but Im not so sure if the Tigers are ready to sell. They usually turn it on in the 2nd half and Miggy is nearly back too. I think the Tigers would need to be blown away by a trade to wave the white flag. They arent catching KC but they could overtake Minny and get in the wildcard race. Either way Im more excited for this deadline then Ive been in about 10 years. Probably since when we were rumored to get Manny Ramirez lol.
Ha! Really, that's the bottom line. It's a lot of fun. Hope we're pleasantly surprised with a couple of more additions
If Conforto is on the Mets I play him every day. If he struggles like Sandy said when he brought him up send him down. Let's see if he can handle it.
Agreed. You sit him against the Kershaw's and Bumgarner's of the world but other than that he needs to be in there. If he wasnt gonna play everyday I dont think they would've called him up but ya never know.
Looks like the Clippard trade is going down..nice! Waiting to see what we gave up for him but nice to supposedly keep him away from the Nats and Yanks. Heard reports before that the Nats are interested in Kimbrel but he would cost a lot..also dumb since Storen is decent but Sandy seems to strike here!
http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/6/22/8821351/mets-prospect-casey-meisner-future-major-league-ace Wasnt one of our top 10 prospects..but then again neither was deGrom when he was called up. Totally expendable though.
