No, you rent a first baseman. Or an outfielder and put Cuddyer at 1st. Conforto should stay in AA this season. Hopefully Duda can get his shit together and come back in mid August or Sept. That is if he can hit. And then you buy a new bench. With guys who can at least hit their weight. And go for it vs. the Nats. Even though the Mets won they only scored one run in 17 innings even with 14 hits and 13 walks. And left 25 guys on base. You usually will lose with those kind of numbers.
Look five out of their 13 non pitchers are hitting well under .200. They have the worst pinch hitting stats in baseball. And with injuries these guys are often in the lineup. How is that Terry's fault. This roster was not well planned out even with a superlow 100 mil payroll.
Terry Collins sucks. Period. Alderson Sucks more. The Coupons are the root of all evil. Collins makes moves that Pony League coaches don't make late in games. (Pitching/Hitting) Collins knows how the roster is built. Yes? Yet his history is pulling pitchers in good games for hitters that can't.....Hit? then losing when the next guy on the mound gives up a couple runs. Just. Like. This. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseb...ho-lose-to-cubs-in-bottom-of-ninth-1.10433658 The Closing m0ment is NOT THE FUCKING Ninth inning. It's the moment where the game is decided. Collins NEVER goes to a closer say in the 7th, in a one run game with 1,2,3 coming up.
Id hope that would be the case but Im thinking a Mayberry/Niuenhaus platoon is more likely. Which is a complete joke.
Some scouts have said he's ready. And recently the Cubs brought up a player (catcher Kyle Schwarber) who was drafted last year (six slots before Conforto) and he's hit well with minimal minor league experience. But that's short term. Who knows how he'll do with extended at bats. Other scouts said don't rush him and hurt his development. I agree with that. Esp on a team where he's expected to contribute because there is no offense. IMO again you get guys like a Delmon Young (who is available) who can at least give you some MLB at bats. In other words you go outside the organization and spend some money but not give up your better prospects.
You might be right, but doing that would be basically conceding the season. Conforto can be called up right now and bat 5th. That's how weak this line up is.
this is a fundamentally bad baseball team. Harvey would be wise to GTFO here soon as his rookie contract is up IF this ownership and GM doesn't do anything to improve this roster.
Most likely gonna have to go to the pen early. Thats always good 1 day after an 18 inning game. Good chance we'll see a position player pitching for a bit tonight cause this one might get out of hand quickly.
Sandy did make a personnel move today. He sent down Johnny Monell hitting .178 and brought up Anthony Recker hitting .140.
4 out of the 9 in tonight's lineup hitting well under .200. If not for Harvey the Mets would again be getting shut out.
Not that it matters but new report saying the Tigers are likely to be sellers at this deadline. Some players on that team that would be amazing upgrades for us. Mostly Cespedes. Id prefer him over guys like Gomez and Upton. Wouldn't cost as much since he'll be a FA in the offseason.
Fwiw, Heyman said teams are asking about LF Michael Conforto and SS Amed Rosario. He said Sandy is not interested in trading those two. But Brandon Nimmo and some other guys are possible. I guess it depends on the market. Imo it would be nice if they would pick a guy that they like, for the future too, and go get him. Doubt it tho...They're gonna tread water and wait for their prospects next year. The alternative is stop gap B/C level guy and that is just a waste of time, imo. It won't be enough. Regarding Cespedes, he's an attractive player but there seems to be an issue with him that teams don't like. I heard somewhere that in Boston particularly they really didn't like the guy. No idea what it is tho.
One GM said the Mets can get an average piece (because they won't trade their top prospects). It was in today's Newsday. I'd be ok with that. Your serious long term deals usually come in the off season. The Reds are selling even some of their big pieces but a Byrd or two in the bush would come in very handy. And a one way (to) Vegas Express. Those guys can't hit MLB pitching.
