He's up there with Gomez money, but that would be a nice pickup for the rest of the year. He has a vesting option for next year tho.

It's doable...If the Coupons would just pay a guy for half a year, or a year and a half. AND they might not have to give up much for Byrd.

Granted it's easier said than done and there's competition for all these players mentioned. Not expecting anything but hope to be pleasantly surprised

Byrd needs 550 PAs this season for his 2016 contract to kick in and only has about 262, so chances are he won't meet it. This is just one guy there's plenty of them available. They don't have to spend all that much to improve the offense. And in deals just give up minor prospects.

Even better. Byrd's a good one because they may not have to give up much for him.

Chances are no "top prospects" will be moved at the deadline.

That's usually reserved for the offseason.

The deadline is for teams to take on some money so I'm not holding my breath.

Look guys like Upton and Zobrist are summer rentals. They both are at the end of contracts. And this is what a contending team is supposed to do. Use money and minor chips to improve their team and fill holes during a playoff run. Like what the Pirates did when they acquired Byrd from the Mets. The Mets are only 2 games out. This is the time to make a move if they're serious about contending. If Sandy does nothing then it tells me exactly where him and the owners are coming from.

Jon Heyman reported that Gomez and Upton are on the radar. I don't belive it. But I'll bite

IF the Coupons forked up some bread either could be had...

Gomez could be a vital piece this year and next....as Conforto & Co. start to trickle in

They're both in their prime, are relatively young, and could even be a key piece beyond this year.

    Zobrist? Meh...

This game was over once it got tied up. Does anyone ACTUALLY think the Mets can come back and even tie it, let alone win it. Hope they make me eat my words.

I can't think of enough bad things to say about Sandy. Did Keith really say that Johnny Monell (lifetime BA .184) is dangerous.

So frustrating! Good outing by Noah wasted. I want them to add a bat of course but this team is definitely more than one player away from it making enough of a difference. This lineup is putrid.

I'm not expecting miracles from the front office or even for them to drastically increase their payroll. We all know the starting lineup has offensively struggled and significant injuries. But here to me is the fixable problem and a key reason we have such a bad offense. The bench:

    Campbell: .174
    Mayberry .186
    Muno .120
    Monell .195
    Nieuwenhuis .135

This is a fairly high percentage of non-pitchers and guys who are in the lineup a lot. No way you can be successful with these kinds of stats. Other teams don't have this kind of lack of production on their 25.

Six innings six goose eggs. And the STL pitcher has no MLB Ws. All too typical over a very long period of time. I wonder what percentage of innings the Mets have scored in this season. Seems like at least the first half per game they are shut out.

Lucas Duda: this slump is over 100 ABs. He is totally lost and is killing the team. And following in the footsteps of Ike. I'd send him to Vegas. A few weeks ago I'd have said no and thought he could work through it. He is a huge disappointment.

That's not happening because then Cuddy would go to 1B and they would have to call up Conforto to start in LF.

    Lucas Duda?

    Really?

    They're still carrying him?

    And Sandy Fucking Alderson...really?

here is all you need to know..

Five fucking years is a lifetime in sports.

And lets face it, the Mutts get over 50 mil a year from SNY, so Madoff notwithstanding, they do NOT have or have ever had a cash flow problem.

The Mutts don't. The Coupons do.

    The coupons
are you really telling me, that creative bookkeeping aside, with 50 mil from SNY, and revenue alone, the team can't field a competitive product?

    Minaya was ..ugh...

Alderson was supposed to be a money cruncher that could paper over the swindle being perpetrated on Mets fans.
    He isn't.

    Gate receipts. 70 + million.

    Sny 50 + million.

    Player cost 105 million..

The Coupons bought the Mets for 391 Million.

It's worth a Billion more now.

    Please sell it, and GTFO.

Best thing about moving to Columbus Oh, right after Little Mandy Man Candy, is never having the Mets darken may thoughts....Baseball has faded into a PAST TIME.
