I didn't think so at first either but looking at the replay I think they had a shot. And common sense nothing, it was a dirty play plain and simple and the ump made the blindingly obvious correct call.
Here's the definition of interference: Note that the outcome of the play if the interference hadn't occurred has absolutely nothing to do with it. It was a horrible play by Anderson, and a blatantly obvious call for the umpire.
i think what hes saying is he thinks the umpire should be able to make a judgement call on the play fuck it, just win tomorrow and hope the phillies set back agaisnt the fucking marlins
F yourself, Marlon Anderson. Go to hell, dumbass. I'm so so so pissed off that happened, I just left my uncle's house speechless, not even saying a word. I can't believe, what is this dumb asshole thinking? Is he mentally retarded? There was a very small chance a ball hit that slowly was going to turn two, and this asshole blatantly tries to knock over the 2nd baseman? And then argues with the ump? Are you serious, Marlon? You actually tried to defend yourself? Go to hell. You're an embarrassment to baseball, and more importantly, this already-embarrassed franchise. Speaking of an embarrassing franchise, way to go, Mets. Way to blow ass yet again. Way to lose THREE GAMES IN A ROW TO THE PHILLIES AND SCORE NOT EVEN THREE RUNS IN ANY SINGLE ONE OF THE GAMES... IN PHILADELPHIA! Way to allow one of the worst bullpens in baseball to dominate you. Way to blow a god damned 7-game lead and make it 3. This is a complete joke. Completely inexcusable, pathetic, heartless play. All of that being said, I still think this ass-team makes the playoffs, but is it really even worth it?
I think you need to back away from the cliff and calm down. Dont lose sight of everything Anderson has given this club this year
Both Anderson and Willie insisted after the game that the play was just "good hard baseball," and that it was the wrong call. Maybe after seeing the replay they'll see just how stupid this makes them look. Who would have thought it on Saturday, but tomorrow is a must-win game.
I honestly feel the Mets will take care of business tomorrow and the divison wont even be a point of contention for the rest of the year
it hurts less when it inevitably happens. this loss didn't even upset me i just chuckled and turned off the tv. kind of waiting to see what pathetic way they'll manage to lose a game next.
If I saw this game live I don't really know what i would've done. I saw the highlights and yes, you are all right, Marlon Anderson is clearly mentally retarded. After reading the AP article I couldn't really tell who who was right, but this is an open and shut case. If our lead shrinks to 2 games tomorrow...well, let's just say I'm avoiding this thread.
So I've been away from NYC for a week in Colorado and can't watch the games out here, but after finally seeing the play on Sportscenter I gotta say that while Marlon didn't have to make that kind of slide to let the run score, I can't kill him for doing the overly-aggressive slide. I would hope that any team I root for is willing to put in extra aggresion and take risks in big games. I get the feeling like this was a home town call. The umps took the liberty of calling interference and made sure the jackass, fall-down-drunk, Philly fans went home happy and not rioting. Of any ballpark, (except maybe U.S. Cellular) umps are probably most intimidated by the Philadephia crowd. Simply put, the fans are drunken assholes. Regardless of whether or not the umps thought about it, at some level they know if they let that run score and the Mets go on to win they'll be looking over their shoulder as they walk to their cars after the game. Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist, or maybe I saw some blatant cowardly officiating on that call. While I'm not panicking just yet, I think the Mets only need to win 5 of their remaining 10 against the Braves/Phils. Mets fans have to remember that 19 of their remaining 29 games are against sub .500 teams (houston, cinci, florida, washington). Despite the Mets flaws (and there are many right now), I can't see them blowing many easy games versus bad teams. So like I said, just hope for .500 ball against the big teams and beat the bad ones.
I see Jesus Flores is doing very well for the Washington Nats. He is the 21 year old catcher that Omar kept off the 40 man roster last year and Washington plucked him in the rule V draft. He had 3 hits last night and has his average up to .243. He has committed one error this year (LoDuca has 7). Flores also hit 21 home runs last year in High A St. Lucie which shows his major league pop will eventually surface. Flores is 6ft1 and over 200 lbs. Thank you very much Omar.
