I've always assumed that McCarver pays ESPN big bucks to keep Morgan and Miller on the air, just to guarantee that he isn't the biggest moron broadcasting national games.
I will probably go to a Mets @ Phillies game at some point this year. The last time I went to one of those games was in August 2006. It was the game that One Third hurt his arm or hand and they thought it was nerve damage or something. I wish it had been bad and he had to retire.
Alright lets go Mets tonight. It might be early in the season but its never to early to send a message to the rest of your division. It would be so sweet if Pelfrey went out there and shut down the Phillies and we swept them and take 5 out of the first 6.
This is the closest to a must-win game we could get early in the season. Sweeping the Phils gets us in their heads early on in the season and hopefully we'll stay in there for the remainder of it.
I almost choked when I read that..... what makes them think that Delgado and Wagner would spend time on the DL? That's like me saying that Chase Utley and Brad Lidge will spend time. Besides I'm sure that if Wagner got hurt the Mets would have an easier time replacing him than if Lidge was to go down again. Oh looks like karma got them as Rollins goes to the DL today..... oops
McCarver's an asshole and Buck sucks too but the combination of Miller and Morgan is the Godzilla of shit-for-brains announcing. Their idiocy can't be stopped.
Pelfrey's fastball is certainly looking a lot better this year, but he's got absolutely nothing as far as offspeed pitches go and that's probably going to kill him again. Looking at the pitch f/x stuff on gameday, his release velocity on the changeup is about 10 mph slower than his fastball. In other words, it's not going to fool anyone. I think the Baseball Prospectus guide described it as being "as convincing as Milton Berle in drag."
Even though he got out of the inning, that Utley at bat pretty much exemplifies why I doubt Big Pelf's ability to become a decent major league starter. Any hitter who can do so much as consistantly foul off his fastball is going to completely negate his effectiveness. His only strikeout pitch is the one the blows past somebody, and in the major leagues you can't get by on that and that only.
oh man. "all the qualities that make you a good hitter are what makes you a good fielder... ... ...except range"
Unless you're a first baseman or second baseman you also need a decent arm to be a good fielder, which as far as I know has nothing to do with being a good hitter.
Nice play by Endy/Reyes on that one. Pelf has good movement but they seem to be hitting him pretty hard anyway, needs to get the ball down.
