Glavine hasn't lost since the break though. Granted, he got lucky a couple of times, but still. And if Pedro starts game 1, the bullpen could get burned quickly.

I guess it doesn't matter because we all know that it's going to be some variation of Pedro-Glavine the first 2 games. Glavine even when he's going well gives up alot of hits and can't strike people out. Pedro is the best pitcher of the generation and has a 4:1 K:BB ratio since coming back. I also don't think there's anything to the idea that Pedro would be any more of a strain on the bullpen then Glavine would.

Don't forget that a key component of Pedro-Perez-Glavine-Maine (in whatever order) is the use of Hernandez out of the bullpen - what the Mets would like to see is what he did that way for the White Sox in 2005.

Have they actually said this is the plan? I was sort of assuming that he won't be available at all for the postseason. If he is I've got the feeling he would get a start over Maine.

I've heard this more than once on radio, but not from the club itself. I think it depends on how close to the start of the playoffs he's ready (assuming he is at all, and assuming of course that they make it). Unless he got at least one start in, my preference would be to start Maine and have Hernandez available should any of the starters go only a short time.

Phils up 1-0 over the Nats in the 6th, by the way.

I agree with that...El Duque would make the pen seem a whole lot better.

I'd really appreciate the Nats to step up here. 2.5 lead with a week to go would be pretty decent.

nats score a run on a throwing error by utley 1-1.

everything i've heard about el duque makes it seem like there's no chance he will pitch before the season ends and you're probably right that they wouldn't want to throw him out there to start a playoff game when he hasn't pitched in over a month.

i guess this is what happens when you bat your 2 worst hitters 1-2 in the lineup.

    zimmerman is also an asshole.
