Just read that Randolph has too much money left on his deal for the Mets to fire him, no matter what happens. I think we have Willie for another year or two no matter what.

A moron wrote that info. If the Mets lose all of their remaining home games this season he'll keep his job? If the Mets tie the 1988 Baltimore Orioles and start off 0-21 next year, Randolph won't get fired because he has too much money left on his contract? If Randolph gets drunk and throws firecrackers near a baby in the Dodger Stadium parking lot he'll keep his job?

Sounds like the same garbage reason some of you told me Mota and Schoeneweis are still on the team.
There is no salary cap in baseball!!! Get those fucks off the team. They are huge minuses.

As for Randolph's contract, didn't the Mets eat some of Art Howe's contract? Maybe I'm wrong about that. Also, aren't the Mets still paying Bobby Bonilla? And they are worried about a manager's contract? Give me a break.

Sorry, but I think that's complete BS. He's owed $5.65M for 2008-2009. That's chump change for the Mets. And I mean that quite literally - that is almost exactly what the Mets paid Mota and Schoeneweis this year (chumps indeed).

If the Mets wanted to fire him, they could do it without a second thought. Do I think they will, even if the Mets collapse completely and miss the playoffs? No, but it's not because of the money.

To answer both of you guys, I shouldn't have written that so absolutely. Maybe not "no matter what", but it's very unlikely. The Mets won't pay 5.65 mil (funnily enough, I read that it was 4 mil, so it could very well be BS) to fire a guy who won a division title and came close to doing so again the following year. I mean, there's a difference between Art Howe and Willie Randolph.

Art Howe didn't have quite the level of players Randolph had to manage.

If the Mets don't make the playoffs this year, Randolph must go. There are no excuses for this team to not be in the playoffs.

The 5.65M figure I gave came from Wikipedia; I assume it's true, but who knows.

And you're right, there is a difference between Art Howe and Willie Randolph. It's called Pedro Martinez, Paul Lo Duca, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, and full seasons of Jose Reyes and David Wright.
