You won't get the Yankee hate so don't bother even posting in here, but if it wasn't the fact that they are playing the Phillies, I'd want the Yankees to fail and fail hard
In regular season Phillies-Yankees games, Mets fans root for the Yankees unless they are insane. So why should the postseason be any different?
Well I'm a Mets fan. It's like when the Giants played the Pats in the superbowl to me. Of course I rooted for the Giants.
Is it so hard to comprehend that some of us want the NL to beat the AL whenever they play head to head? I don't care if it's the Phillies, Dodgers, Braves, or Nationals. If I liked AL ball then I wouldn't be a NL fan.
Says the guy posting in a thread clearly marked "for Mets fans only".... and spouting off about others being douche bags. The hypocrisy and self pity of your posts never ends.... I'll be looking for a National League victory.
It was an easy Phillies for me... Not like I need reasons but here ya go... I don't hate the Phillies, they have never given me a reason to. I still hate Atlanta and Florida more. I grew up with Mike Schmidt as my favorite player. I idolized him to the point that I wore his number and went to Cooperstown when he was inducted. I grew up going to the Vet, my uncle worked for some huge company in Philly so I always had box seats at the Vet for Phils games. I even have balls signed by Phillies legends like Carlton, Schmidt and Kruk. I know one Philly fan that will rub it in... I know about 70 Yankee fans that will. My buddy is neighbors with a player on the Phils and he is a pretty cool guy. Been to his house once and was great to watch football with. It actually should be pretty easy to figure out who it is. I saw Ryan Howard hitting HR's for the Lakewood Blueclaws. I used to know a bumch of people that worked for them and having worked in the minors if the parent club gets a ring usually the minor league FO's and players get one too. Have to pull for my friends in Lakewood to get another ring. I'm still kicking myself for not taking that job with them 3 years ago as I'd be looking for ring #2 if I did. Plus only in an isolated case would I root for an AL team over an NL team. Hard to root for teams that don't play real baseball.
While I think you nail the point about the overspending and by outspending the Yankees eventually will break through but in their defense guys like Jeter, Melky, Posada, Cano, Mariano and Joba are homegrown talent. The problem is the Yankees have an excellent scouting department plus the resources to outspend everybody by 25%.
Just a question for the Met fans. If it meant the mets would win the next 4 World Series, and the mets had the resources to spend whta the Yankees have, would you be all for it?
Of course but we know that isn't going to happen... my team winning 4 straight WS titles is much more important than what you guys do. Fuck if it meant the Mets won next year I'd be for. That isn't going happen and I'm no fortune teller so I'll stick with the Phils and hope for the best next year with the Mets.
ultimately, my point is the way the Yankees can continuously add the best players to their roster every year, unlike every other team in baseball, thus they are expected to win every year, so when they do it isn't exciting for anyone else but Yankee fans, and if it isn't exciting why would I want to see it? but, since they are expected to win, the Yankees losing is actually exciting because it is always an upset and unexpected, and thus more exciting to see. in general, people watch sports for the excitement of the competition and outcome. unless you are emotionally invested in the Yankees, their winning isn't exciting because you figure they always have the best team, which is the result of them being able to afford more than any other team. the only way a Yankee game is exciting is if they are upset.
I dont want to see either of them win. But I'll get FAR less shit if the phillies win. I know one Philly guy and 20+ Yankee fans.
So if the Mets have the second highest payroll and the Yankees don't win the world series, shouldn't the logical favorite afterwards be the Mets? This means your epic collapses two years in a row when fielding very talented (and expensive) teams should be equally entertaining to the rest of the league.
and who said it wasn't entertaining to the rest of the league. I certainly didn't, so do you even have a point, or do you only posses the ability to address the Mets as a way to defend the Yankees. you do know those two are mutually exclusive, don't you? it is possible to discuss one without the other? of course, in your continued attempts to somehow challenge my posts you continuously and completely miss what I am saying because you can't separate your interest in the Yankees from other people's disinterest in the Yankees and somehow can only respond to me in regards to how the Mets appear in comparison as if I haven't already addressed the fact that a fan of a team doesn't care how their team wins as long as they do win but a non-fan can objectively disagree with those same practices, thus your post is irrelevant. not to mention, from a logical stand point, your post is completely ridiculous because it simplifies the two teams and ignores the differences between them. Last I checked, the Mets didn't go out and sign the top two pitchers available in the market and the best bat available this season, last season or ever, so clearly the dynamics are different. your need to ignore the differences and only address the similarities only reveals how poorly you are arguing your position, if you even have one. really, what exactly are you trying to say? the Mets are poorly run? no kidding, no Met fan would disagree. but how does that change what I said, that the Yankees winning is boring. it usually helps when you quote somebody that you actually address what they say. so, if you are trying to dispute my post, please tell me why I shouldn't find the Yankees boring. that is the only thing you can be challenging my post about.
I would have a field day making fun of the Mets on a regular basis if I was a Mets hater. Though, in a way, I do hate them.
You said that because the Yankees go after the best players they're expected to win every year, and when they DO win it's not fun for anyone who isn't a Yankees fan. Well, no shit. We've just seen something like that this season while the Yankees have dominated this postseason and are on their way to their 27th world series, so Mets fans have been going on and on about how we basically purchased the WS and whatnot. I've been hearing this from fans of other teams as well, so it isn't just Mets fans. The problem with your post is that the Yankees don't ALWAYS win. Sure we've fielded some of the best teams in baseball the last 10 years, but we haven't won the whole thing since 2000. This means that although we've continued our "buy every best player available" policy, we've still managed to underachieve, leading to other teams taking their place. How is that not exciting? Classic underdog scenarios each season. I understand where you're coming from, though. Your hatred of the Yankees is based purely on jealousy, as since the Mets haven't been able to capitalize in the years since winning the NL pennant and watched the hated Phillies make it to two straight WS, you have nothing better to do than complain about how boring things are. Again, for you and other Mets fans, no shit.
