Its painfully obvious Wright can't hit anyone who throws above 93 mph He can sure hit shots against soft tossing clowns like Nate Robertson though.. Hes truly awful.
A fitting and deserving end to a game where you had a man on third with one out and couldn't bring him home to go ahead.
He's truly Mr. Clutch. The guy is so predictable. Davis could have maybe come up with that throw, but Wright's bringing his problems at the plate to the field. Need I say it again. FIRE HOJO. The guy is fucking them all up. All or nothing all the God Damn time. And, again, Johan gets no support. I wonder if he's banged one of the guy's on the team mother ala Delonte West?
A night to remember for Wright. He was on the fast track to the Hall of Fame in 2008 - his decline since then is amazing.
It probably started with the 80 pitch, hit-the-ball-the-other-way drill installed by Bernazard during ST in 09.
Wright's fingerprints are all over this loss, of course, but don't forget Jerry and Omar's contributions. Since Mejia shouldn't be anywhere near the majors this year (he should be starting in AA), maybe they would have had a pitcher in there in the 9th who wouldn't walk someone after having them 0-2. Of course, since they couldn't care less about what is good for the team in the long run, he instead is doing the worst thing possible, pitching and losing high pressure late inning games in the majors. Have to at least give Wright credit - he publicly acknowledges how bad he's been. From Sportsline: "It's a tough, humbling game sometimes, and right now it is for me," he said. "It's tough, when somebody goes out there and is playing as poorly as I am right now and really costing us, both offensively and defensively."
That's why it is tough to really get on the guy. He's always a stand up guy in the locker room. More than I could say for a couple of other guys who have been in the same losing locker room. Good point on the 1st part of your post. Very true. These ass-clowns need to get fired ASAP. I'd rather have Art Howe back at this point, let alone Bobby V.
It's sad to watch Wright and painful as well, he's been my favorite player in the Majors for about 5 years now and you have to wonder if his issues are ever going to be fixed. maybe a change of scenary is going to be a good thing because unless there is a major shakeup with managment taht's what is going to happen. To think how the decline of this team started with a fucking cabbie accident in So Florida in 06. They've never been the same team since that night.
that was Jerry the genius's idea. how the fuck he thought of this brilliant baseball tactic, who the hell knows, probably something along the lines of "uhhhhh lets see, theres a real real big gap in right center field, we should try and hit the ball exclusively that way and run as fast as we can around the bases, thats how we're gonna score runs this year. they'll never catch on to what we're trying to do." fuck Manuel.
no, fuck him and his .160 batting average in the 06 NLCS, and his glorious 3-0, bases loaded, 0 out at bat against the Cubs in the 9th inning of a 6-6 game during 08 pennant race that he then struck out on. Wright simply doesn't come up big in big situations.
In his defense the entire team played like shit in 06, outside of Perez and Chavez. Beltran was awful as was Reyes.
Beltran actually hit very well in the 06 NLCS. A 296 BA, 387 OBP with 3 HRs. Everyone just thinks he did badly in the NLCS because of the last out in Game 7, which is pretty much the lasting image of that series for Met fans....
Yes I will never get that image of him watching strike 3 go right by him. In hindsight Wainwright is and was a very good pitcher.
You know what pissed me off worse about that 9th inning? We had like 2 men on with less than 2 outs, and Cliff Floyd was up. He gets an absolute MEATBALL right down the center of the plate, and puts everything he has into his swing, and whiffs right through it. I was disappointed Beltran didn't even swing but I didn't put much blame on him for what happened in that series. I blamed Trachsel more. EDIT: and i agree about Wainwright. His breaking stuff is absolutely filthy.
For what it's worth, I never understood the vitriol directed at Beltran for not swinging at that hellacious pitch. He never would have hit it - he has always been terrible against the overhand curveball. It was a 3-2 count, and the pitch was right on the corner, and could have easily been called a ball. He doesn't deserve any credit, of course, but I've always found the idea that the fact that he didn't swing made him the series goat pretty ridiculous. As others have noted, plenty of other guys on the team didn't hit that series, and Floyd was to my mind a bigger goat for swinging and missing at the fastball right down the middle earlier that inning.
