I'm with you blue. Nothing about this team shows a playoff bound team. I mean, Santana gives up 1 run in 7 innings of work, and as of right now stands to lose the ball game. That is, as 3rd said, absolutely pathetic.
the mets lineup is pretty weak. they basically have 2 good hitters(3 if you want to count reyes but he's been awful for awhile, continuing into this season) so on days when wright and beltran aren't hitting it's going to get pretty ugly. the scrubs toward the bottom of the order have been "hitting" but really only singles and no one is driving them in.
that walk was idiotic. how is pitching to larry with the bases empty more "dangerous" then pitching to teixeira with a man on?
You can't even blame Heilman for that. The genius that is Willie Randolph leaves him in for two lefties instead of having Wags ready to pitch one out in the 8th. And MAYBE 3 outs in the 9th. But not Willie. That's too much forward thinking. Based on this game alone, Willie will be hauling debris from Citi Field by May.
You can put Jorge sosa giving up the grandslam as an example of poor managing, but today was just terrible hitting, and Heilman being Heilman.
I'm still bitter Willie wasn't fired after The Meltdown. Peterson too. And this Rangers/Devs game is wearing more emotions on me. 2-1 Devs just over 10 in the 2nd if you care.
im gonna save judgment til the end of the month, some of you are freaking out way too early, we've played 5 games. the offense does look like it might suck pretty badly though.
it is still early, but i question some of willie decisions to, has he ever heard of a pitcher pitching a complete game? i understand the ph need, but when johan has 1 of the 3 hits at the time and the only extra base hit, why not leave him in, he's not 40 years old, btw, i nor 85% of america care about the devs/rangers nor any other team in the nhl
Looking at it objectively half of our starting position players flat out suck. Castillo and Delgado are only going to get worse with injuries/age. Schneider and Pagan are in an even lower class of suck and the only real opportunity for improvement from any of these positions is Alou coming back and staying healthy. The Mets need Reyes to be consistently good all year if they want to have a decent offense.
I don't think anyone is freaking out -- it is simply a fair analysis of the team as it is constructed based on past performance. there is nothing about the team that is being put on the field that leads me to believe they are any better, even with the changes, than last year -- and we know how that team performed. you can be optimistic and expect career years or dramatic improvement from players that have never shown any indication of such, but not doing so does not equate to freaking out. Omar and Willie clearly look at this team as if it is still capable of being the same team from two years ago when that year quite possibly may have been the fluke or career year from those players. until this team proves to me otherwise, they are last years team, not the year before, and the problems from last year simply haven't been corrected in theory with the players acquired or in practice yet on the field.
Absolutely. Delgado is going to continue to fuck us in that 5th spot all year long and Castillo can't get the ball out of the infield. Horrible re-signing right there. Pagan is a backup, but because we have Moises hes going to get a pretty good amount of playing time which just shows your team is in trouble when Angel Pagan is batting sixth for you on some days. I'm worried, but I'm going to try and be more patient with them than I have been in the past.
delgado might just be done, castillio is nothing special, i like alou but he like pedro just cant stay healthly, church is ok, were gonna have to make a move at the trading deadline for another bat or we could be in trouble, for those who say were overreacting, its not just the 5 games this season, it dates back from the last month of last season when we were pretty bad
