We are probably going to have to increase our payroll even with those coming off the books to make this team respectable again.

but you seem to want to confuse disappointment with not caring at all. being angry and not being devastated about the losses anymore is just as much an extreme as positive and cheering on the losses, so one doesn't make someone more or less of a fan than the other, which you insinuated. a band wagon fan doesn't care when things go bad, they just jump ship. actual fans get angry, meaning they do care, and that anger can take many forms, and indifference can be how it is dealt with. the idea that you have to celebrate the misery or you are a bandwagon fan is ludicrous.

June 13, 2008. Mets trail Philly by 7.5
Sep 13, 2007 Phils trail Mets by 6.5

The team in underachieving to say the least, but there's a reason everyone on or within it still appears so disappointed yet so relaxed. And for legitimate reasons. June 13 is not the time to panic. September 13th is. We have three months of anything's possible left. One long streak of good luck just into July would change things.
There's too much talent to give up.
Before you blow up a team this talented you have to let another manager have a crack at them first. And Willie doesn't deserve to be fired this early.

WHAT??????????, willie doesnt deserve to be fired at this point, you said it yourself, 6.5 ahead last year at this time 7.5 behind now, if my math serves me correct thats a 14 game diffrence,
the way this team played the last month of last season to now has been pathetic

    opening day 06
beltran first at bat cheers ,makes out
beltran 2nd at bat slight cheers, one or two boos with laughter makes out
beltran 3rd at bat mixed boos & cheers makes out
beltran 4ht at bat loud booing from the shea faithful

my 3 year old asked me "why are they booing, he is on the mets right??????"

kids always seem to break it down so simple.

To me Alou and Delgado are the big ones...... this team has no bullpen but they are getting absolutely no production out of either one of these clowns. Alou has played how many games this year? Delgado is healthy but he's off the juice so he is worthless. Quite honestly Beltran might be the biggest dispointmnet on the team, he's batting like .260 with 7 HRs. Honestly I wish he would be traded because that guy pisses me off more than anybody else on the team not named Delgado. I don't care about his walk off HR.... I want consistency and a few more than 7 HRs from a guy that got a hundred million dollar contract.

oooh, you gotta watch it there w/the beltran comments, yes his average is down, but he's never been a .300 guy, he still plays a gold glove defence, his on base % is pretty damn good, cause he walks alot, his stolen base % is stiil good, and hes probaly the best base runner in all of baseball,

but i will agree w/you on delgado and alou, pedro when healthy has produced, so has alou, but alou nor pedro can stay healthy, and delgado is just done!

b.t.w beltran really has 8 home runs, remember opening day?

I've been on Minaya since Day one. When almost every other Mets fan was defending him, I argued almost every move he made.

I hated both the Beltran and Delgado moves.

    I love this report too.

Yeah...that's going to do the job. It'll be the same shit, different day, with a new manager. Nothing Jerry Manuel does will differ the way the players play on the field.

Maybe next year, let your new manager pick his coaches instead of appointing them yourself, Omar.

i really dont understand the beltran bashing, this team would be 10 games under .500 if it wasnt for him, this team however is 4 games under .500because of delgado sucking and pedro and alou not being healthy and because willie sucks ,

beltran in 06, 40 homers, 22 for 25 in sb opp. last season 33 homers and a gold glove, what are you peoples problem w/him?, that he makes 18 mill a year? who the hell in any sport is worth 18 mill a year? not a-rod, not brady, not even babe ruth in his prime!

The guy is not a clutch player. I could name a ton of things wrong with his game.

He plays too deep, therefore too many balls drop in front of him. He's brittle and is guaranteed at least one DL stint a year. If he's in a slump, the reason for it is an 'injury' that is bothering him.

Oh and, Beltran was 18 for 21 in SB opportunities.

His money is one issue. It's going to hold the Mets down through 2012 financially, when all he is on this team is a horrible clutch hitter, batting cleanup on a mediocre team. Go ahead, and tell me how clutch he is by the 16 inning HR in 2006 and the recent walk off this week, but they are a fluke. Every player gets that lucky walk off once a year.

beltran wouldnt be hitting 4th if delgado wasnt sucking, beltran is a 3rd or 5th type of guy, people think because he makes 18 mill he should be god, but thats not how it works, he's a piece to the puzzle, a puzzle which has no connections right now, beltran isint the whole puzzle,

saying he plays to deep is reaching dont you think? i think his gold glove speeks for itself, were would this team be w/out him?

we know were there are because of alou, pedro and that wasted over the hill fuck delgado, man i wish we had mike jacobs right now,

but dont get me wrong man, im just as frustrated as you are watching this underachieving team, and even though im defending beltran, he has underachieved this year

Is that true? If so management is even more clueless than any of us even thought. How does a manager go about turning around a team in this much trouble in one weekend? Is winning two of three "turning it around"? a sweep?

    I hate sports.

With all them money coming off the books, who exactly can we get for '09? Teixera? That's the only guy who makes sense I think.

While this year isn't over, that would make 2 out of 4 years in a seven year deal that he's underachieved so far.

I agree with you 100%. Either fire him or don't, but giving someone a three-game series to "turn it around" is complete idiocy.

I wonder if this is Omar's moronic idea, or if it comes from higher up?
