Without the hype the loss isn't too painful, once expectation mixes in with the game the loss starts to hurt like hell.
Extra innings. This is terrible. The only way we make the playoffs is if we get the kid from "Rookie of the Year," or the Angels from "Angels in the Outfield." Or Roy Hobbs. Other than that, we're fucked.
Sorry, that's exactly the attitude that allows incompetents like Randolph to keep their jobs. There is very little that a manager can do to affect the result of a baseball game, so you can't constantly screw up when an opportunity arises that you can affect. Making a ridiculous decision so that Pelfrey can feel good about himself when the team is reeling is overwhelmingly wrong, and it would have been if Wagner had gotten three outs in a row.
For the first time I can remember, I flipped watching a Met game. Throwing shit all over the place. WHAT THE FUCK. For someone who has such a low ERA, Wagner has been awful all season
No I feel that Randolph screws up the game many ways and has blown games for us, this however wasn't one of them, remember we have no bench either. This move should be largely overshadowed by Wags coming up tiny again. Pelfrey only represented 1 run which wasn't even in scoring position, Wagner is the one that blew that badly.
This goes on wagner, and only wagner. I haven't been this pissed off over a mets game since last september.
its better for the team if we're knocked down again but still win the game. this is a good thing if we win. oh god heilman warming hit it out jose
however if we lose this game, the losing streak would have been extended twice because of wagner and only wagner honestly not even mad anymore, no emotion. just whatever, team has gotten me into the same trance the players are in every night meh
Obviously Wagner's poor pitching will overshadow everything, but the entire sequence of decisions was moronic. First he gives away an out in the bottom of the 8th with the top of the order coming up. The Mets bench might not be too great, but are you seriously claiming that Tatis and Easley aren't better hitters than Pelfrey? The Mets ultimately got two men on base in the inning, but got nothing. Then, he uses the moronic "you pitch until a man gets on" strategy. Either Pelfrey is strong enough to pitch the 9th or he isn't; the fact that a batter gets on base has nothing to do with it (did he suddenly become less good on his second pitch of the 9th compared to the last pitch of the 8th?). Pelfrey has never in his career pitched into the 9th inning, it's only a three-run lead, and the team is reeling; to send him out so that he could possibly pitch a meaningless complete game is absurd. Doing that virtually guaranteed that Wagner would come in with the tying run on deck. You and I can say that that shouldn't matter, but there's no reason to do it. This is what a manager is paid to understand.
For anybody who is free on Saturday and is close enough to/knows how to get to Atlantic Highlands- I have two tickets for the Rangers-Mets game on Saturday. We are going by cruise (SeaStreak). Boat ride and ticket costs $50. The boat departs from Atlantic Highlands at 4:30 on Saturday. It was to be a party of 5 (well, still will be; the heck if I have to eat 2 tickets), but my pussy-whipped friend can't go anywhere without his girlfriend and my cousin's friend went apeshit at work and beat up somebody because he wasn't on his meds and may be locked up. If interested, send me a PM.
The only thing I will agree with you is the pitch until the 1st guy gets on, that is idiotic, but that shouldn't be enough to blow the game. I have no faith in any reliever right now so going for a complete game was a worthwhile gamble.
Runner on first, Willie, pull the pitcher! I'm being sarcastic and serious at the same time...no more Heilman, please...
Sorry, but if you agree that that strategy is idiotic, you agree with everything I said, since that was the only reason Pelfrey was allowed to bat. I haven't said anything to defend Wagner, but Randolph is apparently incapable of understanding how to put his team in the best possible position to win, and I don't see how anyone can defend him any more. By the way, Reynolds has had 4 HRs in the last 4 games, and is in the top 10 in the NL in HRs. I have a hunch that if it was Wright who had done this we'd all be saying how great he is, rather than how bad the pitcher is. It all depends on which side of the fence you are on.
