I went to bed right after Wright's HR. Glad I did.

As 3rd said, it seems pretty clear that this team (unlike last year's) simply doesn't have what it takes to grab hold of a game and take it.

what killed me the most about that 8th inning last night is the utter TRASH that combined to win it for the Padres. and its not like he made one bad pitch that got hit out of the park. 3 guys hitting in the low .200's with sub .300 OBP's all reached base.

It really should be pointed out that you don't need "it" to win a World Series (see Cardinals, 2006). Once you're in the playoffs--and frankly, I very much think we'll get there--anything can happen.

Are any of those Last Out Milledge Facts remotely humorous?

You are entitled to like them, I'm just saying I haven't read one yet that is funny.

You're certainly correct about a crappy team getting hot enough to win in the playoffs, but at this rate the Mets might not even get to 90 wins, and it seems a lot to hope for that the Braves and Phils won't also (clearly the wild card would be out of the question at that point).

ok, we're still ahead of both teams. if they can get to 90, we can get to 90

A very valid point, but I think we'll get to 90. Our schedule in the second half is better than the first (though that's not saying much), Omar could make a move at the deadline, and then there's the fact that I believe the team has been playing at a lower level than they are capable of (though I must admit that's pretty weak). Plus, the Pedro factor.

92 (and the NL pennant) was my late March prediction (was never posted here, though).

I would be very surprised if either the Braves of Phillies got beyond 87.

I expect the Mets to play their best baseball after July 31. A couple moves (such as acquiring Octavio Dotel, dumping Scott Schoeneweis, Pedro Martinez coming back and being serviceable, Moises Alou and Endy Chavez coming back) and this team should find themselves in a position where they won't be sweating much when they close out the season with four series against Washington and Florida.
