the mets have not even had a halfway decent swing off maddux so far.

 

Gary is right about how dominating Maddux was from 1992-1998, but I don't really see any argument that he was underappreciated - he won 4 Cy Youngs (in a row), and finished 2nd, 4th, and 5th in the Cy Young voting in the other three years. His WHIP over those 7 years was 0.968, which is quite amazing.

I always wondered how guys could run all over Maddux and he always get's a gold glove but when guys run on Piazza it made him a "horrible" defensive catcher.
