Mets manage to stagger to a win against the worst team in the NL thanks to great offense. It's hard to give a damn if this team makes the playoffs. They will be crushed by a decent team, won't they?
3rd was accurate in calling the "pitchers" in the bullpen for what they really are. They are below scum right now.
The playoffs are too unpredictable...You never know. Ollie's better in the playoffs, I think, Pedro might raise his game, and Johan might just be ridiculous. Maybe me won't need the bullpen as much. Besides, let's say we get the division and the Phils get the wild card. Do the Dodgers put much fear into you? Just a theoretical. The Brewers are falling apart as much as we are, we've done well against Philly all year, and the Cubs are cursed. You never know.
I wish they would start giving Parnell leverage innings to see what the kid is made of, why the hell not, it's better than retreads.
I predict that if the Mets qualify for postseason action, you will be in these threads posting just as often as anybody else.
As it was happening, I was thinking about how you wanted Manuel to just play match-up in the late innings...and he did that, it's just that all the pitchers sucked.
I dunno, maybe they'll be so relieved that they finally got over the hump that they'll be loaded for bear in the playoffs. It's hard to see the pen pitching well under any circumstance but if the hitters relax and start rolling and the big three in the starting rotation gives us quality starts the Mets can match up with anyone.
Feliciano pitched to 2 switch hitters and 1 righty(and amazingly got 2 of them out), Show pitched to 1 lefty and a switch hitter(and got both of them out), Smith pitched to 3 righties and got one, had one reach on a error and walked one. Compared to what came before them and the normal performance of the Mets pen that is a pretty good job.
What happened to Eddie Kunz? Isn't he supposed to be a possible future closer, he can't be any worse then anyone one else in the pen right now.
He only pitched like 3 innings, but he was in fact as bad if not worse then anyone else in the pen. I doubt they want to expose him any more this year.
on the bright side, all we have to do is win out, and if the Phillies do too and end up with a better record than Milwaukee we'd win the division with a better head-to-head record against the Phils. I think the team is up to the task.
I have deemed tonight's game important enough to watch some of it. West Virginia-Colorado is on at 8:30. I think WVU is 1-1. I know they lost to ECU. I don't know who they beat. Shows you how little I care about college football these days. When WVU Glavined their 2007 campaign, I lost major, major interest. That said, I'll watch some of it. The Mets sent me an e-mail to tell me I didn't win a chance to buy NLDS tickets. That sucked. On September 24, The Shea Stadium Jerker will make what will presumably be his final appearance at the stadium. He has a desire to take a dump there, but I don't know if he will slap again. True story- he really did take a crap at Shea Stadium. Even funnier was the fact that a Shea Stadium worker went into the bathroom and commented on it. While I was washing my hands, I heard the guy say, "I can't believe someone is actually taking a shit here."
