amen brother, couldnt have said it better myself. I thought sports were supposed to relax and kind of distract you from all the nonsense and stress. Yet all I can see is nonsense and all im getting is stress.
I see people are very excited about watching this team, even when Santana is pitching. 2-1 Mets through 3 thanks to a Wright HR, but Santana has thrown 55 pitchers already, so this will probably end badly. In sort of Mets-related news, Lastings Milledge was just traded to Pittsburgh as part of a four-player deal.
The misadventures continue. Martinez overruns a fly ball in CF, kicks up a divot when he tries to stop, falls down, and it goes for a double. Minor league baseball is often humorous.
Santana with his second four-pitch walk of the inning (the first being to the pitcher). It should be 4-2 very soon.
Santana racking up a high pitch count early. That means it's up to the bullpen. Garbage bullpen + AAA lineup. Oh joy. BTW, Wright and Sheffield may be resting tomorrow night. Dan Warthen ejected.
And now Warthen is thrown out of the game. Why? None of the pitches were very close on either walk. The idea that this is going to "fire up" the team is ridiculous.
Day game tomorrow and our genius manager says that both will definitely not be playing whatever happens tonight. Absolutely brilliant, especially when they're facing the Brewers' ace. Can you say sweep? Santana gives up a bases clearing double for that 4-2 lead, and then he throws away a ball to make it 5-2. This team will be at least 8 games below .500 by the All-Star break.
what i love about this mets team is they can't just be awful and lose. every day its some new embarassment or fuck up.
Whoops, my mistake. You're right, jeff. Day game. And yeah, it's a sweep. That play which ended the game? I see it every few weeks in my softball league. Even for minor league ball, that was outlandish. And yet they have high ticket prices even as major league baseball goes. They should just brand themselves after the Marv Mets or the Washington Generals. Then maybe the fans would stop taking the games so seriously and enjoy it for what it is: an amateur team embarrassing itself against major league teams.
No, Gary, it's not how you carry yourself that's important, it's how you execute. Lost in the humor of what happened to Martinez is that EVERY other problem in this game has been Santana's doing. Coming up pretty small for an ace, as he has often this year. I'm not blaming him for the team's problems - obviously lots of others are much higher on the list - but the fact is that he often isn't keeping them in games either.
I'd like to see this team play exhibition games against AAA teams. It'd be far more entertaining than this, that's for sure. At least we can congratulate Wright on passing Delgado in home runs, I guess.
Wright is starting. Evans is playing left and batting fifth. Gerut starts for Cameron and Gamel is at third.
I guess even Manuel realized that putting out a complete "give up" lineup wouldn't look too good. As it is, I think if the Mets lose 4 of their next 5 there's a decent chance he'll get fired, and Minaya will pray that a bounce under a new manager will somehow save his own job.
