40-120 and 53-109, respectively. The way they're playing now this is definitely not a 60-win team. I wonder if Alderson will feel any pressure to pull the plug on Collins? It's one thing to be bad, it's another to play like this two weeks into the season. This is also very bad news for the Wilpons, since with every loss it's got to be getting harder and harder to sell a part of the team. Who the hell would want it?
This is without a doubt the worst team I have seen , pathetic stupid mistakes combined with below average pitching and we are sleepwalking to 110 losses. Clearly we tried to build a roster on $5 and its coming back t haunt us the likes of Emaus / Hairston / Carrasco / Capuano shouldn't be anywhere near a MLB roster. I actually would rather see the likes of Tejada /Meija /Acosta / Holt / N Evans and a fit Martinez over some of these quite clearly below average retreads. Give some of the younger guys a try it cannot be any more pathetic.
Martinez is never healthy. He's a piece of shit. The bigger problem is that people aren't going to go to games unless they are nutcases like Shadetree#55 or they get free tickets.
I think you may be getting carried away now dude. You think someone looking to make a multi million dollar investment to purchase a baseball team in NYC market is going to decline based on the teams current record? Im thinking the purchasing decision looks at a much broader, long term picture. no?
Absolutely not. The Wilpons were not willing to sell (part of) the assets they have that actually have intrinsic worth - Citi Field and SNY - but only the asset that has no inherent worth other than the goodwill of the public - the team. Further, they would only sell a share small enough so that the buyer would have no management input for the team. The only money the team actually gets is from tickets and concessions, which are driven by nothing other than how people are feeling about the team (that is, attendance). This was nothing more than a glorified owner's box, which is worth very little unless the team is winning. The only reason someone would have done this was for vanity, and where is the vanity-stroking in having your name attached to a horrible team that is publicly ridiculed on a daily basis?
Miracle of miracles as the Mets break the 7-game losing streak. Think Collins was a little desperate? He used two starters (Capuano and Dickey) in relief in the game.
