I'm not dogging on you but look at the guy you are comparing him to. Santana could single handidly put the Mets into the series with his pitching. If you are the Mets your goal is to win AWorld Series. In this day and age dynasty is very very tough.....

Man that's been on ON-Demand HBO for the last 2 weeks!

Somebody mentioned Arizona's rotation could contend with the Mets...

LA is also solid. Penny-Lowe-Schmidt-Billingsley...Obviously the Mets are better but just another solid pitching team in LA-LA land.

best part about the trade is summed up by a conversation I had with a Yankee fan when I told him the deal was just about done:

Me: The Mets finalized the deal for Santana, Gomez, Humber and a few others.

    Friend: Who else, Pelfrey?

    Me: No.

    Friend: Martinez?

    Me: Nope.

    Friend: Shit....

    Me: Yep.

It is a bigger risk banking on them reaching their top potential especially now to be compared to Santana for the next 5 years, then it is a pitcher who for the most part was never hurt throughout his career to all of a sudden become injury prone, especially in his prime.

As long as he didn't go to Boston I am fine w/ this. I was hoping Minny wouldn't trade him and he'd become a FA next year but as long as he's not headed to Boston it's a good day.

I never really thought Boston were going to go after him. They were just trying to drive up the price on us. Because of recent dumbass moves by the Yankees,i did think there was a chance we would go after him. I'm glad we didn't. Congrats Met fans, looks like you got a good deal.

Are we going to bring up the Yanks payroll now or is it ok to spend big money now?

even with this the Yanks have a much bigger payroll, however people for the most part has stop talking about that for years now, ironically the Yank fans have brought that up a lot more recently

    That's been my position too.

Right, like Mets fans always leave the Yankees threads alone. Nice one!

I didn't think it would be the Mets that benefitted (I think I said Anaheim), but I was predicting this outcome months ago. I've said all along that the Twins were greedy, and were just trying to jockey the Yanks/Sox against each other to drive up the price, and that the strategy would eventually fail them.

The Mets got an absolute steal, and it's great for them, and it's good for the Yankees. The Sox lose more than anyone with this deal. They didn't get him, and the Yankees didn't overspend for him. I'm as happy as I can be considering we didn't get the best pitcher in baseball.

Ummm, no one said Hughes is better than Santana. All we are saying is that he's got potential to be a #1 starter for a very long time in pinstripes, and it's not worth mortgaging the future for one man.

Actually, I like the view in here, I think I'll stay a while. Thanks!

Huge props to Minaya for this one, no matter how you felt about him before this trade, he gets major props. He played this about as perfectly as a Gm could.

good now the mets can probably make it to the world series and not collapse, so that they can get beat by the yanks like in 2000.
