This is so dumb. The Mets get the best pitcher in baseball, completely revitalize their team, and reshape the National League, and we're arguing about Phillip Hughes. Ridiculous.

The chance that Phillip Hughes ever develops into anything along the lines of Santana is so small. Santana is one of the few dominating pitchers in the steriods age. He's a lefty, under 30 and should give the mets 5 to 7 years of pitching at a similar level.

The Mets will make allot of money this year with Santana in town... He's pitching against the National League which is easier than the American League... I feel i'm saying very obvious things right now.

A report in the St. Paul Minn. newspaper said the Twins were not that high on Phil Hughes, and were trying to force the Mets (with the overall better prospects) to also include Fernando Martinez. Omar stared down the Steinbrenners, Epstein and company, and the Twins to get the best pitcher in baseball at 28 years old. A reporter asked Omar if this depleted the minor leagues, and he said "You have no idea of what we have in our Dominican leagues playing now". GO OMAR.

yeah but the risk with phil hughes and ian kennedy is so much less since the yankees have control over them for many years at a very low cost.

Santana, who turns 29 in March and is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, is expected to require a deal of at least six years and $20 million annually as the price for waiving his no-trade clause.

The Mets have indicated that they do not want to sign Santana for more than five years. But as they prepare to open a new ballpark next season, it is difficult to imagine that they would allow this opportunity to pass.

As if it wasn't obvious that there was a Baseball section of the forums that has this same thread already made?

According to a recent report by Jon Heyman at SI.com, citing ?people familiar with the Mets thinking,? they?d like to keep the deal to a five-year contract, though Santana is believed to be seeking six or seven years.

However, Heyman adds, ?There appears to be optimism that something can be done.?

Earlier this month, citing ?a person with knowledge of the negotiations,? the Star-Tribune wrote that Fred Wilpon is willing to meet Santana?s contract demands.

Thank God JoeJet's the guy who posted this. People might actually take this nonsense seriously if someone with credibility had posted.
