UMMM...Most Yankee fans here are commending the Mets on raping the Twins.

Hughes was a big piece of the trade. If the Yankees let Hughes go, Mets fans would be claiming the Yankees ruined baseball again..

Well someone better call the Yankee front office and advise them to throw away all of the scouting reports and common sense for that matter because some poster on a Jets forum "just doesn't see it."

    I'm sorry?

And you people are laughing at me?!

Do you really want to compare a 40 year old Randy Johnson to a 28 year old Johan Santana!?

    Randy was old...

That's freaking stupidity to compare Santana to Johnson.

    :rofl2:

    Go ahead and advise them.

It's simply my opinion. Shoot me for giving an opinion.

im sorry man but your opinion counts for shit when it is a damn near consensus of major league scouts and reporters that hughes was rated #1 last year and is the definition of ace potential.

other factors that played a big role why this non-trade was good for us:
johans declined numbers last year, injury speculation since he didnt throw his slider at the end of last season, the $150 mill we dont have to spend, johnny fucking damon would be playing center field.

    need more convincing?

Yeah let's bank on a "potential" guy rather than a Cy-Young Proven Ace pitcher in baseball...

I'll hope for the best, but right now, and for the next 5 years, you take Santana over Hughes.

The same attitudes were behind the Johnson deal. "We need an ace so lets go for broke." Thank God none of the kids we gave up then were anywhere near the quality of Hughes, or even Kennedy for that matter.

Yes. And very hard too I might add.

His numbers declining doesn't worry me...We know he is the best pitcher in baseball and it's very hard to argue that.

The ONLY thing that made me step back was Damon in Center...That's it.

Luckily Arizona didn't want Chien-Ming Wang...

Sorry dude, you cannot compare Johnson and Santana.

Sure maybe the same attitudes for Johnson, but to this day I still wanted Tim Hudson over Johnson...

But you cannot compare Johnson to Santana...Had Santana been Randy's age, then obviously you don't even blink and move on.

But 28 years old? Gimmie a break.

    Who cares about Phil Hughes?

Just think about Johan Santana with consistent run support.

    SSSSSssssexyyyyy.

Great deal for the Mets though. Steep price, but they truly needed Santana to anchor that rotation. You guys have once again made yourselves the favorites in the NL.

It's easily a great deal for the Mets. Minaya got another Hispano.

    Santana-Perez-Maine-Pedro...?

Probably the best staff in the NL.

Ummm.... they did. Where you been? That was back in December.

And people are wise to laugh at you.

Congrats to Mets fans. I'm glad he's there instead of Boston. And I'm glad he's there instead of the Yanks even more.

nobody has even talked yet about how Santana is going to neutralize the left side of the Phillies order,,,,primarily Utley and Howard.

Okay then smartass, that's why I said if Cashman did...

And back in December, as you just said, Cashman did offer Hughes...And if he did, then I have no problem, and my argument was for nothing.

Sorry that in December I wasn't focusing on the Yankees directly with the Jets still playing and all the Clemens hoop-la.

AND Santana is ONLY 28 years old. Even if the Mets give him a seven year contract, those years are from 29-35 years old. THE PRIME PITCHING YEARS of a pitcher.

I think most of the credit goes to Bill Smith overplaying his hand. But Omar was certainly Johnny on the Spot.
