Considering that the Marlins owner refuse to pay money until they have a stadium and the Royals going from a great franchise to a team that got close to .500 once in a decade, no not really. Yanks are up what over 50 mil more than the Red Sox, even Yankees fans know that their spending has been out of control for a lot of this decade to the point that they are preying that their prospects come through otherwise the next RJ-like signing will be right around the corner. Spending money is fine and has always been fine but nearly doubling the next team behind you which was the case earlier in the decade is extreme gluttony. Now just remember the Yankee fans brought up payroll and have been the only ones save a Shade post here and there for months now.
What's this I hear that Johan was once a SS? My dad told me that, but then again, I'm convinced my dad just doesn't pay attention to anything he "hears" He said he heard Johan was once a Shortstop when I said "Hey, I heard he's happy because now he'll be able to hit".
The only reason it's been months since Mets fans discussed the Yankees' payroll is because it's been a very quiet offseason since the winter meetings ended. Should we go back to the threads that were active back then and dig up all the posts by Mets fans discussing the Yankees salary situation, especially ARod? It's truly amazing. Mets fans shit all over the Yankees threads incessantly, then their team does the same things and all of a sudden it's "We haven't said a word in months" or "It's not the same thing". I'm not accusing you, mind you. I don't remember you trashing threads, so it's a bit unfair to single out your post, however, a good number of your fellow fans have had their little laughing parties in their time. Don't feel bad. We've done the same thing to Boston fans over the past few years too. As Yankees fans have maintained all along, if you have access to the money, spend it. All that matters in the end is who wins the last game in October.
Now when you mention Arod and the salary situation, what the met fans and what you yankee fans say is entirely different. There is a difference between bitching that the Yankees have a 200 million dollar payroll, and pointing out the consequences of resigning Arod considering your teams payroll situation. And you shouldn't of had even brought up Arod because Yankee fans bitch about Arod more than anyone here. And be careful not to group both Red Sox fans and Met fans together when you are only talking to one group. And the Yankee fan has been as bad as Met fans when it comes to bringing crap up lately. You do realize that in this thread it proves my point nicely.
"According to Greenberg, after the Twins, the Mets were Santana’s first choice. He told the Twins he would not stand in their way of getting the best package of players from wherever Smith needed to send him, but the Mets had always been his top choice, followed by either the Red Sox and the Yankees." Gee, I wonder why? Maybe because that's where he got traded to.
" The Mets were my 1st choice. Followed by the Yankees or the Red Sox. And it has nothing to do with the fact that they are all willing to pay high salaries or they are the 3 of the front runners for a World Series run" Johan " Tell it like it is" Santana...LOL
I know what Benson was traded for. The point is that I think it's stupid to trade a lot for a free agent to be.
I think thats a pretty fair breakdown of the prospects. That being said, I still think Omar won this deal handily. Two gusy with great potential (Guerra, Gomez) and two guys who seem to maybe be 2-3 guys for the best pitcher in baseball is great.
Again, Yankees and Red Sox fans assuming he wanted to go there first, when there was word BEFORE the trade that he wanted to be a met
Considering that he is going to a pitchers park in the weaker National League in the biggest media market in the world, why would you be surprised if Santana meant that?
I don't recall seeing anyone else post this, but apparently the deal actually is a 6-year deal, not an extension - they tore up the contract for 2008. There is an option for a seventh year based on Cy Youngs or innings pitched. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ny-spmets035562846feb03,0,3812629.story
Well you can do so now.... http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3020352&cp=.3021980 They have 2 replicas and 2 authentics
holy crap that's a crazy amount of guaranteed money for him. I really hate doing those contracts... We basically paid more than he would get on the FA market, plus we gave up prospects.
