Buzz: If Deadline Passes, Extension Likely

According SI.com’s Jon Heyman, via WFAN, should the Mets fail to complete a contract with LHP Johan Santana before today’s 5 p.m. EST deadline, they will likely be granted an extension.

Considering that Santana next to Griffey Jr was my fav non-Met, if we screw this up it would hurt and hurt bad, especially with the Milledge fiasco earlier.

Alio your a smart guy, clearly you know the difference between counting on rookies pitching in NY vs veterans. Even if you penil in those guys for above average years that might not be good enough to get into the playoffs with all the teams in the AL that are contenders

Sure that could happen and if it does we're screwed and that's all I'm gonna say

The guy is 28, he is in the prime of his career and even his down year is better than most #1s in the league. You take out the w/l record and i's still Ace stuff

Funny most Yankee fans I know are acting as if Hughes, Joba and Kennedy are Koufax, Ryan and Gibson reincarnated. I don't know if this year is a down year but I know that it's foolish to think you are gonna win or even compete for a WS with 3 very young arms in your rotation.

You know it's quite possible I have friends that are Yankee fans but have no reason to post on a Jets message board? Then again I'm not surprised at your response......

I'm sorry, but this is the dumbest statement I've seen in awhile. Omar made the trade to get him here, it's not up to Omar to open Wilpon's wallet. It's up to Fred Wilpon to give Santana the contract, not Omar.

These negotiations are beyond the general manager. The Mets issue with giving out five-year+ deals to pitchers has gone on way before Omar was even with this team.

You think its foolish for me to even think the Yanks can compete for a WS?:rofl:Obviously all WS teams have been anchored by 10 year vets. You act like Hughes, Kennedy, and Joba = a zero as far as production. As farfetched as you may think, they are actually an upgrade to our mish mash rotation from last year

Why would the Mets get another OF? It's not like Gomez was going to make the team. Don't they have enough?:

    Beltran
    Alou
    Church
    Endy
    Anderson
    Pagan
    Easley Valentin if necessary

Lofton's not any better than Endy or Marlon IMO, so he what's the point? Mench makes more sense, because he kills lefties and can platoon with Church.

The part I was calling bullshit on was you saying that it was MOST of the Yankee fans you know. If that's really the case, then most of your friends are morons.

You can never have enough depth. I'd take Lofton over Anderson in the OF any day.

    spin spin spin

You must be hard headed.... I never said you don't have a chance, all I said is it's stupid to put all your faith in 3 guys who haven't even pitched 200 innings amongst them in the majors. Think what you want. As much as you think your rotation is improved at what cost to your bullpen as Joba was clearly the only guy who could get it done other than Mariano.

our bullpen is pathetic, if thats your logic then thats fine with me. I don't think were screwed with a rotation of wang, pettitte, hughes, joba and kennedy

Yes, that would be stupid. Fortunately, those three guys don't require that all of our faith be put in them. We can also put our faith in some guys like... oh... I don't know... A-Rod, Jeter, Posada, Cano, and a handful of other pretty decent players.
