    Worst idea since Bobby Bo:

"With Cliff Floyd unlikely to be re-signed, the Mets intend to give Lastings Milledge a chance to play left field next season, but Omar Minaya has said that he does not necessarily see him starting there on opening day. The Mets could sign the 40-year-old Moises Alou as a short-term answer."
    -- New York Times

Are they hoping to become the retirement home for players past their prime?
Endy Chavez is better defensively, and if they can sign another bat for 2nd Base (HELLO ALFONSO!), Chavez's limitations at the plate won't hurt so much.
Omar, can you please just fix the most obvious of our woes (pitching)?

I like Alou(depending on the price) he'll put up much better numbers in the 60 games he plays in between injuries then Floyd would.

What's the over/under for an Alou injury? June? July?

Mets | Glavine deal not close
    Thu, 2 Nov 2006 01:37:27 -0800

The Newark Star-Ledger's Don Burke reports the attorney for New York Mets SP Tom Glavine said he has yet to have any discussions with the Mets on a new deal for the pitcher and that he doesn't expect a resolution until closer to the deadline for Glavine to exercise the $7 million option on his contract.

Glavine needs to go to Atlanta and get it over with.

Mets | Team talking about extending Randolph's contract
    Mon, 6 Nov 2006 16:01:25 -0800

The Associated Press reports the New York Mets have begun negotiations with manager Willie Randolph on a contract extension. Randolph is entering the final year of a three-year deal.

Mets | Delgado declines trade demand option
    Mon, 6 Nov 2006 15:58:48 -0800

The Associated Press reports New York Mets 1B Carlos Delgado has declined his option to demand a trade. Players with enough service, that are traded during a multiyear contract, have the option to demand a trade the following season. Players who file trade demands become free agents unless dealt by the following March 15, but they lose the remaining guaranteed money in their contracts. Delgado is owed $14.5 million next year and $16 million in 2008. The Mets have a $12 million option for 2009 that carries a $4 million buyout, but they have until five days after the 2008 World Series to decide on it.

I'd be surprised if the Yankees let Mussina go.

That being said, that would be a nasty rotation. I have serious reservations about Barry Zito in the AL East, but I think he could dominate the likes of Atlanta, Florida or Washington. Mike Mussina would be even better. And everybody knows what Glavine can do.

That's a top 3 that no team would want to face in the first round, plus Maine and Perez who could both be very decent.

No surprises on either of these, but I'm glad that Delgado has agreed to stay.

This business about the Mets NOT pursuing Barry Zito is absol-f'n-lutely ridiculous. It's not our money, so please don't insult me with the "He's too expensive" defense. Signing Zito does not negate future FA signings because there's no cap. Zito has never missed a start because of an injury, and he's a valid No. 1 LEFTY.
What is there to consider? Omar should already be worried about figuring numbers out with the agent, not simply considering discussion.
As far as the unpronouncable Japanese pitcher, please please stay away. Even without it being my money...$25 million just to begin negotiations?
Screw him. Even Steinbrenner won't do that.
Zito is already proven in America. We don't need another foreign experiment and I hope the Wilpons would spend $25 million on SIGNING two players before they paid it to negotiate with one unproven commodity.

He's more valid than Pedro, El Duque, Glavine, Perez, Maine, and Bannister.
The first two are negated by injuries, so his injury-free career already overrides them.
Glavine? He should be a veteran anchor...a # 4 at best.
Perez and Maine, despite their great postseasons, are still unproven until they can prove themselves over the course of an ENTIRE season.
And Bannister, is still a 50-50 prospect imo.
How is Zito NOT a valid #1? Even if he was a righty.

The reason they are looking at him is because not only is he throw in the mid to upper 90s, but he is also younger who can be an ace or #2 next year, this is the first year his contract year in 4 years that the soft-tossing Zito has shown to be anything more than barely better than average, so it isn't like Zito is an #1 lefty, he may be solid in the NL, but he may just go back to being barely better than average again, along with the fact that I am hearing a lot that we are also interested in Mulder, another lefty I don't mind taking the gamble on the japanese pitcher. And there is a reason why he is worth so much money to just negotiate (and Steinbrenner would and will do that type of bid), is because as they say pitching wins championships, and to give away an ace to one of your biggest rivals because he may be a risk considering that we don't have to worry about money is foolish.

Well, it will be interesting to see if you're right, since everyone seems to be saying that the Yankees most definitely will be bidding on Matsuzaka.
